Associated Venue: Islay Ales
Established in 2004
In July 2018 Donald MacKenzie and Mackay Smith - ''The Islay Boys'' - took over the brewery with one goal in mind: to reconquer the hearts and minds - and tastebuds! - of the good people of Islay, and of course the many visitors to the island, by brewing straightforward, taste-upfront beers. We rely on experience, taste and aroma to guide our brewing process.

500ml bottle from Master of Malt. Golden colour with a white foam head that dissipates away. Phenolic islay whisky aroma. Taste is malty, underlying fruity, with phenolic whisky and salty notes. Quite thin bodied, high carbonation, dry tangy finish. Quite OK.

500ml bottle from Aldi - Hazy amber body, medium white head. Nose is a tinny caramel, yeasty, basement aroma. Taste is metallic, weak caramel, bit of a wash out. Not the best, not the worst.

500ml bottle. Clear, orangey golden colour with average to huge, frothy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Smoky, malty aroma, hints of peat and leather. Taste is bitter hoppy, peaty, smoky, citrusy hoppy overtones with a lemon touch; super soft palate, gentle carbonation. Unbalanced, inharmonious, needs an "emulsifier" to link peat and citrus notes.

500ml bottle shared with Ashton McCobb. Pours hazy brown with a thin beige head. Aromas of red fruit, light spice, ginger and cloves. Taste is sweet, cinnamon and cola. Thin finish, can’t get the cola likeness out of my head.

Bottle from Islay Ales. Appearance - dark brown and cloudy wit has thin off white head. Nose - loads of cloves, maybe prunes. Raisins. Taste - major ginger and dried fruit notes. A bit too ginger. Then cola bottle notes. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy yet tangy texture and a long dry tangy finish. Overall - interesting and general cola thing going on. A bit thin though and ginger too dominant.
