In July 2018 Donald MacKenzie and Mackay Smith - ''The Islay Boys'' - took over the brewery with one goal in mind: to reconquer the hearts and minds - and tastebuds! - of the good people of Islay, and of course the many visitors to the island, by brewing straightforward, taste-upfront beers. We rely on experience, taste and aroma to guide our brewing process.

Bottle at cgarvieuk tasting. Appearance - hazy yellow and thin head. Nose - fusty oxidised sherry note. Taste - a bit more of the same. A dry booze dominated finish. Palate - rich and boozy throughout, dryish finish. Overall - a bit booze dominated. So imbalanced but rich.

Bottle at cgarvieuk tasting. Appearance - cloudy golden. Nice lacy head. Nose - oxidised sherry notes. Didn’t expect that. Clearly to do with the ageing. Taste - boozy, woody and oxidised again. Palate - rich and boozy. Some woody dryness at the end. Overall - boozy and challenging but good.

Bottle at cgarvieuk tasting. Appearance - cloudy golden amber. Nose - fruity whisky and light sour. Taste - more whisky and it’s a bit tcp like. Palate - hard to describe the body of the beer, as the whisky is so dominant. Overall - said it before, but why is a session strength beer being used with a whisky barrel.
