Can. Nose or lemon, corny grains, citra hops. Deep gold. Sweet, somewhat cloying flavor, grainy, with nice orange or lemon hop flavor. The malt character sucks, as expected, but the citra hops are making it reasonably decent. Definitely good for a third category beer.

A Dunkel from Suntory, can, picked up at Lawson 100 for 215 yen & served in a glass beer mug. It pours a hazelnut amber color with a thick beige head. Grainy sugary sweet malt nose with light caramel accents. The mouthfeel is smooth but on a slightly thin body. The tast is sweet but with a surprisingly solid roastiness, not so much roast coffee as roast nuts or pastries. Nutty sweet with light caramel. Pretty good for a macro.

Can form a convenient store. Not sure if this is a dunkel or what. Pretty sure it’s a lager, know it’s dark amber, but it uses British malts... nice malty, roasty nose. rich malts, roasted and a bit burnt, but more amber then dark. caramel, light chocolate. Well balanced with a bitter finish. Good major.

350 ml can from a supermarket near my house. Pours nice with a big head. Color is dark amber, looks actually pretty good. Slight aroma of soap, some sweet corn. Taste is quite soft and smooth. There is some roasty malt flavour but this feels to be somewhat mellowed down. It says "blend" on the can and I guess this means it is a mix of usual Premium Malts and some Suntory-produced dark beer. If not so, it still certainly tastes like this. Overall, not off-putting in any way, but not good either.

Bottled 330ml@VWPBF Clear copper color, small white head. Caramel, some ryeish maltyness. Light bodied, quite watery palate. Harsh maltyness, light caramel. Reminds me about Newcastle Brown Ale.

Tap at Hachiko Grill, Kyoto Station. Pretty red-brown color with a tall, fine head. Malty, slightly nutty nose, caramel. Rather sweet, fruity flavor, cherries and caramel. Very smooth, with fine carbonation. A light alt, decent but lacking the proper bitterness of the great ones.

Had the 2014 version and it was much better, good malt character and balance. Way beyond last year. Had this again and it was much better. The glass? Decent all-malt Vienna. Can. Reddish amber. Nose of caramel and some metal. S
