Description

Bottled, 33cl. Cloudy, red-orange with a beige head. Light citric, yet sweet and malty aroma. Candi-sweet flavor with bitterness. Full-bodied and with a bitter finish. Rating: 6-4-8-4-16-3.8 (060328)

Bottle, 33cl. In my head, I had memories of a slightly hazy beer, but this time it was translucent. Deep, reddish brown body, with a nice, creamy, beige head on top. Good retention and pretty lacings. Dried fruits, some fresh fruityness, a hint of yeast and a good sweetness in the aroma. Some chocolate as well. The flavor is sweet and sugary, but the sweetness is far from alone. There’s a very present flavor of dried fruits, and also a nice bitterness that lasts. It has a slightly warming mouthfeel, it’s quite sticky and full-bodied. A weak note of cocoa is also present in the flavor. As the beer warms up a bit, a subdued sour note appeares in the aroma, but it’s far from spoiling the experience. I like this one, but I don’t think it would be fair lifting my score any further. It suits the colder months best, and it gives me a little christmasy feeling. Pity it’s so unavailable here in Norway, even though it’s available at Vinmonopolet. (071204)

33cl bottle from Dorstvlegel, Antwerp. Attractive brown beer with beige sparse head. Rich, malt spice, cinnamon aroma. Fine in mouth, finish has more dark dry malt, spice, brown sugar. Hmmm. Yeah bit nothingy in the middle but the aroma and finish are good

Bottle: Poured a hazy yellow ale with a super huge white foamy head with great retention. Aroma of sweet fruit with some very perfumy hops and a distinctive yeast presence. Taste is a nice mix of sweet malt with a floral and sweet qualities to it, subtle spices presence with some interesting yeast signature with a somewhat dry finish. Body is a bit lighter then expected. Very nice example of the style.

Brown opalescent ale, that gushed out of the bottle after serving the first glass, too carbonated. The head was off-white to light moka. In aroma, maderized sugars, like a port, and a bit phenolic. In mouth, lightly oxidized, almost unpleasant, with orange peels, sour points, a bit of bitter chocolate. This bottle was not in top shape. Bottle at l’Autre Oeil, March, 3 2006.

Thick foamy head, plenty of carbonation, nice deep brown chesnut colour, bit yeasty and malty not too bad but not best of it’s style.

This fine beer would benefit from more complexity. The pleasant aroma is simply malt. The beer is black, and retains a very thin head until the last sip. Flavor is simpler than I expect a 96th percentile beer to be; with sweet malt and light smoke. Very light dried fruit, and not really any citrus at all. Fairly sweet due to the dominance of the malt, and thick and heavy as well. This beer is a winner but needs more complexity; which might be brought on by ageing. It is overall very quad-like, or in this case, quad-light.

Bottled. Dark amber coloured, big beige foamy head. Weak aroma of malts and some grainy notes. Also kind of sweet. Flavour first malty then it turns sweet. Pretty boring in my opinion, I had expected more.... Kind of bitter/sourish aftertaste.
