Description
Established in 1892 by one of the members of most famous and respectful brewery families of that period, Zenona Anstadta, from the beginning Brewery was valued by the deep taste of polish beer.
In Year 1916 property was acquired by family of Magierkiewicz and stayed under their management till breakout of World War II. Brewery was functioning in times of German occupation providing working space for the local population.
Next owner was family of Blusiewicz, which was running the brewery in years 1947-1951. In the end of 1951 Brewery was nationalized and incorporated into Brewery Department of Lodz. In the brake of 1996 and 1997 family of Blusiewicz reclaimed their rights to Brewery and begun beer production as a family company under the name of Browar Staropolski.Modernization of the Brewery allowed to increase the production power up to 100 thousands hectoliters of beer per year.
The end of XX century was a very successful year for the Brewery and management decided to export their products to USA and UK, where it become very popular among Britons and American Poles. Brewery was sold in 2007 due to the weak strategy in fighting for the consumer on the brewery market, at that time mainly dominated by large corporations. Following years were very difficult for Staropolski Brewery, which resulted in Brewery bankruptcy.
In 2014 Brewery was bought by Dystrybucja Pomorze, private limited company.

Bottled. A black beer with a dark brown head. The aroma has notes roasted malt, liqurice, and bread. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, liquorice, bread, and chocolate, leading to a bitter finish. 7/5/8/3/15

500ml flip-top bottle from a local Polish store. Drank at Auntie Sue’s on 31st January 2026, poured into an old Konigsbacher Pils glass tankard. Misty golden body, decent white crown that lasted a while. Aroma of dirty dishes, luckily it tasted better, semi-sweet breads and a light maltiness being the flavours I detected. It’s fine without blowing anybody’s socks off.

50cl bottle from a small beer shop next to Hiiu Rimi, Tallinn. Pours clear golden with a white head. Grainy and somewhat hoppy with notes of grass, hay and hints of herbs and sweet citrus. Moderate to medium sweet with fairly low flavour intensity and mild, but fairly pleasant bitterness. Quite okay.

50cl flip-top bottle from a small beer shop next to Hiiu Rimi, Tallinn. Pours almost clear golden with a white head. Mild grainy aroma with faint yeasty notes, fruits and hint of grass. Low flavour intensity and ditto bitterness, but fairly clean and easy to drink. Completely drinkable, but certainly on the boring side.

50cl flip-top bottle from a small beer shop next to Hiiu Rimi, Tallinn. Pours dark brown, close to black with a moderate, beige head. Wow, 10.2%, didn't really feel like that. Malty and roasty, but fairly light and easy to drink. Finishes slightly dry. Quite drinkable.
