About
The Brasserie du Pays Flamand was founded in November 2006. At the start, a common passion of 2 childhood friends: Olivier Duthoit and Mathieu Lesenne, turned into a real large-scale project. The brewery first settled in Blaringhem, on the border of French Flanders and Artois. This is where Bracine, Anosteké and Wilde Leeuw were born. Today, a second, much larger production site has been set up in Merville, in order to meet growing demand. Each brew is a claim to their origins, to the northern terroir, and each beer, an invitation to conviviality. The different ranges offered testify to respected traditional know-how, a search for original taste, and a desire to discover new flavors. The Brasserie du Pays Flamand regularly collaborates with brewers from all over the world, bringing together cultures and ideas to offer you exceptional beers.

Bottle at home from Terre de Boissons Calais. Aroma is earthy and yeasty some hay and lemon. Hazed orange pour with a gtreyish thin white head. Flavour is some earthy hay and lemon. Some alcohol bite in the finish, but it hides the 8% well. Medium full body. Medium yeast and lemon duration. Decent French beer who would have thought?

Bottled 330ml. -from Brune Rousse Houblon, Nice. Slightly hazy yellow coloured, big white head, spicy and light alcoholic nose. Moderate malty, quite alcoholic and mild spicy with pretty strong carbonation. Let’s say average brew.

33cl Bottle from erickok, thanks Eric! Black colour, beige-brown head. Aroma of hard roasted malts, liquorice, earth, some ash, light berry-tartness. Flavour is similar with lots of liquorice and earthy notes, hard roasted bitter finish, sticky mouthfeel. Medium-bodied. Nice stout.

33cl Bottle from erickok, thanks Eric! Slightly hazy golden colour, white head. Aroma of cat piss, candy, sharp alcohol, grapes. Flavour is of grapes, some hot alcohol, light hoppy, soft candy sweetness, light fruity, some green banana, bitter hoppy and alcoholic finish. Light to medium-bodied, soft mouthfeel. Reminded me a bit of Duvel Tripel Hop 2012, but a lesser version. Nice BSA with extra hop, nowhere near an IPA.

A brown yellow beer with a big and blond head. The nose is fruitfull, aromatic yeast, spices, hint of honey and banana, also some lemon. Taste is aromatic and fruitfull, quite strong spicyness, hint of pepper and sour citrusfruits. Medium bodied, high and smooth carbonation, easy and fresh to drink. Actually, quite nice beer; complex, easy to enjoy, but still characteristic.

Small white head. Slightly hazy pale amber body. Light floral strawy aroma with fruity notes. Dry, and faintly sweet, strawy fruity candy taste with spicy notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dryish grainy strawy wooden aftertaste with resiny dandelion notes. Nice, but a little boring. (0.33l bottle at Couleurs de Bieres, Montpellier.)

No head, just a thin white ring. Hazy yellow body with floaties. Vague raspberry aroma. Dry-sweet apple and alcohol taste with fruity herbal notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, mealy mouthfeel. Dryish spicy apple aftertaste with floral paper and toffee notes. Resiny finish. Not bad, but low on flavour, and too alcoholic. (0.33l bottle, at Couleurs des Biere, Montpellier.)

Bottle from Terre de Boissons, Calais. Black beer with lasting tan head. Bit of tar and choc on the aroma. It’s ok, bit too tarry for me, some liquorice. It’s got a bit of newspaper to it. Not great.

Draught @ Bar La Plage Wissant with Soph, Sylvie, Manon and Willow. Tasting great.. vibrant yeast, lovely almost creamy sweetness.

75cl bottle Christmas Day 2024 in Eecke. Seems to be much much hoppier and bitter than I recall, bringing to mind a particularly fresh hommelbier. Very good.

Dec 7th 2023: 75cl bottle shared with Eric @ Sandy Balls Holiday Village, New Forest. As before.

June 28th 2023: 75cl bottle shared with Eric at his Airbnb in Coton Hill. Misty gold, large white head. Aroma of bubblegum, fresh green hop, floral hints. Continues to taste, brilliantly flavoursome with additional lemon and lime notes. Really good.

9th July 2013: 33cl bottle from a shop in Poperinge. A refreshing blonde with bucketfuls of spiced fruits, apricot, peach and a flowery fragrance. Half way through I left it for 5 minutes while watching telly and when I took a sip I got a big mouthful of bubblegum. Not sure on the IPA classification but this is a great beer nonetheless.
