April 2004. Hazy red copper ale with a little cardboardy oxidized aroma. Still sweet and alcoholic on the nose. Nice malts and nuts, hops in finish come out well. Well blended.

2003 bottle. Aged some 16+ months. I opened this one and let it breath a good 8 hours before decanting. I really feel this helped. Pours a lovely transluscent oily brown. Lots of olive-brown tinges, light mahogany tones and some dark oak colors swirling around. Bottle conditioned, good off-white head and lacing. Aroma of light roast coffee, hints of chocolate and plenty of yeast! Flavor at first had me hating this beer, but I stuck with it and it became exceptionally unique. It starts out with a huge yeastiness that combines with the rich roastiness to really knock you back. Only a touch of coffee and sweetness. The typical wininess you get from Cisco to compound the already peculiar taste and you’ve got yourself one strange beer. But as it sits and breathes and I drink more; wow, this is a real porter. Medium light body, yeastiness and mustiness of an old ale, with nuts, light tofee and only a touch of sweetness. This is one hell of an authentic English porter! Wow, after it’s evened out and your palate gets used to it, you can just drink it right down. Hints of light coffee on the finish, good roasted barley, vinousness and of course a touch of black malt, but it’s all mixed well for a wonderful vintage effect. A true porter of old with plenty pleasing complexities. This isnt just a light caramelly Stegmaier or moderately chocolatey, thin Yuengling, this stuff has tons of character and tons of flavor. Outstanding. 7/5/8/5/18
2005 bottle Yet again, a perfect poor, dark chestnut brown, with crimson and violet tinges, head retained to perpetuity, lacing and unfiltered. In fact, I let the bottle breathe overnight and the next morning, there was still head in the bottle! Aroma of prunes, vinousness, raisins, rich earthy barley soaked in Burton water. Toffee, bakers chocolate, yeast, just lovely. Flavor is more of the same, bakers chocolate, earthy yeast, baked brown bread, raisins, prunes, concord grapes, barley and coffee on the end. Medium-full body, no wateriness, natural carbonation (let it breath!). Simply stunning, I am raising my rating. 9/5/9/5/19

2003 bottle consumed 9/2004. Pours a wonderfully brilliant gold with some softer lime green/yellow hues, mountains of white foam and lacing and a vigorous carbonation rising. Bottle conditioned, as with all of their brews. Aroma has some very fragrant hops, lightly bitter and citric (lemons and limes mainly). Hint of malt sweetness and a bit of drier wheatiness and sweatiness. Flavor is bold; moderately bitter with a good amount of malt backing it up. Beer needs to breath for a while to let the carbonation even out. Lots of lemon sugar cookie flavor, but more of the hops as well on the finish. This is what I would imagine a great blonde ale to be: fresh hops, ample malt and a refreshing but not watery medium body.

A pitch black beer with a huge chocolate brown head. The aroma is lovely sweet with notes of chocolate. The flavor is sweet with notes of chocolate, some burnt notes, and hints of coffee, leading up to a dry end. Wonderful.

Cloudy golden appearance with a huge foamy head - bready, lemony aroma with hints of spice - crisp and refreshing, with citrus and hops pretty dominant, yet yeasty and full-bodied for such a light ale - a nice twist on the style.

2003 750mL bottle. Pours a thick looking red-amber, with a good beige head, quite foamy. Quite bubbly as usual for the brewery. Smells lightly spicy (cinnamon, comfrey, peppermint, allspice) and has a good hop presence. The hops seemed to have mellowed and melded with the candy-like malt sweetness. Flavor is right away spicy and before it really has extended breathing time, there is a strange plastic flavor mixed in with the hops and other spices. Loose, medium body throughout, but a decently flavorful experience. Odd, but I could justify giving this a really low rating or a pretty decent one. On one hand, it seems thin and strangely spiced, with no real purpose. On the other, it tastes real, you can see the sediment at the end of the glass and you know it’s well made. I dont know, I thought it got much better after it warmed and breathed for about an hour or so. Very yeasty, herbally and earthy. Strange, but I liked it.

Draft. No carbonation. Smooth, sweet caramel, and has a tiny hops flavor. Finish has an interesting bubble-gum yeast flavor that is out of place, but good. Big sweet fruitiness. well balanced. It's a nice change from overhopped APAs.

Stout-like darkness, large head of medium-sized bubbles that shrinks quickly, leaving a decent lacing - wonderfully inviting aroma of cocoa, brown sugar, maybe even some plums - flavor is quite similar to Fuller's London Porter - lots of coffee and chocolate, with a slight bitterness throughout to compliment both of these flavors - high carbonation gives a tingly mouthfeel - creamy despite this high carbonation - some cookie/doughy flavors - a world-class porter.

75cl bottle, aged 5 years in my cellar
Dark amber color.
Wonderful aroma, malty and well hoppy; caramel; phenol.
Smooth, quite sweet, malty, with a very good hop character.
The palate is still quite sweet. Beautiful hop aromas for this beer.

This is an odd one indeed. Cloudy golden appearance with lots of floaties. This has an aroma of sweentess and bread. The bread in the smell comes through in the flavor a bit, as well as a mild nut flavor. There is a citrus-like tartness in the flavor that last through the finish. Medium bodied and easy to drink, this is an ale that is worth trying, but not worth troubling yourself to search for.
