Firkin Fest 2014. One of the better beverages of the day. Sweet aroma with apple. Some bourbon in the aroma as well, but it is not overpowering. I also smell lavender. Lightly sweet apple finish with yeast. Good.

I could do without the mung floating around. Tad Sweet. Nb for a cider.

Bottle from Whole Foods in Davis, CA. Pours perry color. Aroma seemed apple but deep inhale brings out some nice floral. Dry it is. It seems a bit thin, I’m still thinking floral, and the carbonation isn’t all that firm. Yet it is a very pleasing drink. I think the refined might apply to the somewhat tart appleskin showing up in the finish.

Reminds me of Growers in B.C. but not as good. Pours like Canada dry and just as fizzy. Apple tastes like fake powdered apple mix. Sweet and light sour finish. Tap for free at Whole Foods, the only way it should be

Tap at 2014 Capitol Beer Fest. Pour is dark gold with no head. Mixed vanilla/oak/cider aromas. Med body. Tangy, seems a bit bourbon, but that’s apparently vanilla from the oak per the brewer. Very complex. Very tasty and dry. Amazing.

This reminded me of a whiskey cocktail with plenty of fruit juice. Pours a pale, cloudy yellow with a small head. Aroma is whiskey, peach, mint, and obviously, plenty of apples. Taste is a crisp combination of peach, mint, vanilla, and whiskey. While this was complex and interesting, I am not sure if I really liked it all that much.

22oz bomber. Hazy, unfiltered, creamy yellow-tan body. Not much of a head, some soda-like carbonation bubbles. Big apple aroma, some alcohol. I don’t really get much Trappist yeast character. The maple syrup adds some depth. Not really my favorite cider, too big to session on, and not enough depth to really sit and savor. Maybe nice to help out with palate fatigue, or flavor monotony, but this isn’t one I’d seek out again.

Growler courtesy of dkachur at the 15th Richmond Ratebeer Gathering on 07/16/2011. Somewhat hazy golden yellow body with a small frothy white head. Sweet apple, fruit, and vanilla aroma. Sweet apple flavor, light vanilla, and wine character. Medium body with moderate carbonation.

Georgia!!! Georgia on my mind….
12 ounce bottle from Beer Run. Pours a hazy yellow-orange color with a frothy white head that actually sticks around. Aroma of big honey notes, mint, peach, butterscotch candy (not in a bad way) and a mild apple tartness. The taste is peaches, mint, apples, caramel, honey. Mild whiskey notes in the finish. Medium bodied with a bit of lingering spice. They went for a Southern-style cocktail… a peach julepy thing… and it works well. I can see how the flavors might be strange or over-bearing for some, but I like this quite a bit.

Sampled at the NoVa Summer Beer Fest in Leesburg, VA on 6/25/11. Pours a hazy pale yellow color with a large creamy head. Aroma of tart apples, wood, faint whisky notes. The taste is whisky with tart and sweet apples. Medium bodied.
