Description
Three Notch’d Brewing Company was conceived by three friends who value great beer and great times, with close family and friends. Each of us has a great appreciation for individualism, respect for hard work and earning our ability to give back to the communities we live in. We opened our doors for commercial operation in August of 2013 and work each day to Leave Our Mark on the craft brew industry and Charlottesville, VA by making great beer and collaborating with all lovers of the craft beer industry. We hope that you will join us and Leave Your Mark, too.

On tap at Spacebar pours a hazy straw yellow with some fluffy, white head. Nose has a lot of promised wheat, some spice, some yeasty esters, apricot, some lemon, straw. Flavor has lemon, straw, a little Twinkie. Chalky finish.

32 oz growler from Dominion Wine & Beer poured into a Spiegelau tulip. Apparently Three Notch’d mistakenly sent them a keg of the bourbon instead of the regular. Black with a finger of tan head. Aromas of graham cracker, marshmallow, toasted coconut, sweet spices, subtle bourbon. Tastes of dark and milk chocolate, some spice, some oaky bourbon, light marshmallow and toasted coconut towards the back end. Medium-full body with a dry finish. Fairly low carbonation but doesn’t detract. Delicious.

On draft at Adroit Theory. Pours black with a tan head. Toasty nose. Flavors of licorice and citrus. Nice. I wonder whether the Three Notch’d version was identical to the Adroit- brewed version I tasted.
Just tried the bottled version -- also delicious. It shows 11.8% abv -- different from the Three Notch’d version.

Sample at Collaboration Fest on 03/21/2015. The beer pours a dark brown color with a medium light beige head that recedes steadily. Strings of lacing. Aroma of roast malt, hops and pine. Medium body with flavors of resiny hops, roast malt and coffee. The finish is roasty up front with a piney hops aftertaste. Above average overall.
