Description
2005 saw the acquisition of Jennings Brewery by Marston’s PLC.
In 2009, the Cockermouth floods had a huge impact on the business and the site, forcing Marston’s to implement flood safety features and barricades throughout the site. A few short years after the floods, brewing transferred out of the town and a mass rebrand occurred.
Marston's retrained ownership of the brewery (through Carlsberg UK) until it closed its doors in November 2022

Cask at The Wharf. A clear copper colored beer with a small off-white head. The aroma has a roasted coffee-like chocolate domination and some pleasant fruity hops. Dry in the mouth, full body. The flavor has roasted malts and dark chocolate, both hoppy and roasted bitterness. Some fruits. Bitter, roasted finish with some fruits. Quite pleasant and tasteful. 101020

Cask at the Crosse Key, JDW. Pours a dark auburn with a fading, mostly white head. Aroma holds quite a bit of roasted malts and caramel. Nice flavor, roasty with mild mocha, caramel and faint, earthy bitterness. Medium bodied with fine to avertage carbonation. Nice hit of mocha and espresso in the finish, some toffee and ripe fruit, light, dry roast and just subtle, leaf and earth bitters. Not at all what I expected. Could do with a bit more sugar but I did enjoy this.
