Description
2005 saw the acquisition of Jennings Brewery by Marston’s PLC.

In 2009, the Cockermouth floods had a huge impact on the business and the site, forcing Marston’s to implement flood safety features and barricades throughout the site. A few short years after the floods, brewing transferred out of the town and a mass rebrand occurred.

Marston's retrained ownership of the brewery (through Carlsberg UK) until it closed its doors in November 2022

(Bottle, Monk’s Café, Stockholm, 6 Sep 2008) Dark reddish brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty nose with notes of toasty grain, dark bread and dark fruit. Malty taste with dark bread, dried fruit, chocolate and a lingering, dry bitterness in the finish. Medium body, smooth mouthfeel. Very satisfying and well balanced beer, suitable for a nice evening in the armchair.

[Cask at Burnt Oak, Milton Keynes] A pale orangey brown bitter with a slight white head. Decent enough earthy hops, some malt, a moderate bitterness. Overall enjoyable enough, easy to drink, but an average, and fairly forgettable bitter.

[on draught at the Oakford Social Club, Reading] A reasonable sweet dark golden bitter, a little fruity, very smooth and easy drinking. Not outstanding but slips down easily; a good session beer. Re-rate 28/4/2009. Amber. Sweet, citrussy beer. Pleasantly refreshing and more tasty than I remember.
