Description
2005 saw the acquisition of Jennings Brewery by Marston’s PLC.
In 2009, the Cockermouth floods had a huge impact on the business and the site, forcing Marston’s to implement flood safety features and barricades throughout the site. A few short years after the floods, brewing transferred out of the town and a mass rebrand occurred.
Marston's retrained ownership of the brewery (through Carlsberg UK) until it closed its doors in November 2022

Bottle, Asda, Bebington. Pours dark brown with a frothy dissipating head; malty, chocolate and coffee aroma. Flavour is more of the same with a sweet element and a dry bitter finish. Pretty good.

500ml bottle from Tesco. Gold with thin beige head. Aroma of straw and floral hop. Some candy sugar as pasteurised. Some light toffee malt. It’s just not very good as a pateurised beer.

Bottle. Deep gold colour with a decent white head. Sweet malt and grassy hop aroma with an industrial edge. Flavour had some caramel and fruity hops before a decent dry finish. Good.

Cask at GBBF 2007. a hazy golden beer with a thin lazing beige head. The aroma is sweet malty combined with notes of caramel. The flavor is sweet malty again with notes of caramel, but also a note of nuts growing towards the finish, which is dry and bitter.

Very thick-set yellowish head over well-carbonated pale amber beer with a slight olive shine. Greenery, sweet roasted coffee or mocha, mocha cookies (café noir), coffee milk, roasted. Bitter dominating the background coffee/mocha taste. Bitter is too roasted for being called hoppy, but not exclusively malt-originating. More parsley interwoven with coffee biscuits. Appropriately British light MF. Reasonably original. What the link to the Liar’s competition might be? Thanks, Jezza!

Dark red-brown colour. Aroma of roasted malts. Flavour is rather bitterbut has enough complexity of malt and hop to carry it off. Overall a nice bitter with a good malt flavour.
