Description
2005 saw the acquisition of Jennings Brewery by Marston’s PLC.
In 2009, the Cockermouth floods had a huge impact on the business and the site, forcing Marston’s to implement flood safety features and barricades throughout the site. A few short years after the floods, brewing transferred out of the town and a mass rebrand occurred.
Marston's retrained ownership of the brewery (through Carlsberg UK) until it closed its doors in November 2022

Bottled (BB 03/2008)
Pale copper brown, decent white head. Woody, grassy, slightly metallic aroma, even someway skunky. Hard mouthfeel, moderate malty, late aromatic hoppy bitterness. Sweet malts are present in the middle and hops ride to the scene later when palate is evolving. Empty and bland, but tolerable, thanks for decent hoppy aftertaste.

Honey golden color, small white head, some lace. Honeyish hoppy (cut grass), quite weak nose. Grapefruits and pine needles in the moderate hoppy flavor. Fruity notes. Bitterish finish. Reasonably ok session beer, just could be more lively.

Cask handpull at The Lion Tavern, Liverpool. Deep chestnut colour with lasting beige head. Nutty malty bitter with some sweet date fruit later in the palate. Faint malt aroma. Soft in mouth. Bit of hop on end. Decent session bitter, light of character, but with enough flavour to make it suppable.

Bottled. Clear, brown beer with a tan to beige head. Coffee, roastiness and dry bitterness in the aroma. The flavor has mocha-coffee, some hop-bitterness and coffee-bitterness. Medium to full body. A nice ESB, leading the thoughs towards a porter. (070302)

Cask at Charlie’s Bar, Copenhagen. A hazy amber beer with a light orange head. The aroma is sweet fruity with light notes of diacethyl, and the flavor is sweet malty with strong notes of fruit as well as light notes of diacethyl and caramel, leading to a bitter end. The body is thin.

Cask at Duke of Ellington, Southampton. Dark brownish amber. Plenty of resiny hops. Bold salty dense malt character, yet fairly light body. Some water seem to seep through the core of dense malt. Resiny finish. Typical rough Jennings’ beer.
