Description
2005 saw the acquisition of Jennings Brewery by Marston’s PLC.
In 2009, the Cockermouth floods had a huge impact on the business and the site, forcing Marston’s to implement flood safety features and barricades throughout the site. A few short years after the floods, brewing transferred out of the town and a mass rebrand occurred.
Marston's retrained ownership of the brewery (through Carlsberg UK) until it closed its doors in November 2022

Cask. Clear copper colour, small white head. This is a rather standard cask ale, a little fruity, not too bitter. But OK.

Pours a reddish copper colour with an off-white head; the aroma reminds me of toffee apples; the taste is dominated by roasted malt with a metallic bitter aftertaste.

Cask Conditioned at Charlie’s Pub, Copenhagen
Hazy light amber color; thick creamy head. The aroma is light, with very light apples, the flavor is in the average; smooth texture, some malt, medium-high bitterness, fresh and lightly fruity, with some residual yeast flavor. Boddington’s evolution.

Beautiful mahogany color; nice lace. Some aroma of malt and caramel. Medium structure, some malt flavor, some caramel, and a peculiar flavor of barley+milk drinks (orzoro) and light roasted malt. Not much hop aroma, the final has a very good toffee track.

Cask handpump at Thomas Ingoldsby, JDW, Canterbury. Ruby colour with lasting dark beige head. Soft in mouth, goodish malts, some choc. Reasonable condition, bit of dryness on end, from malt and hop. Nice dark fruit, dark plums and choc on aroma. Blackberry fruit too. Drinkable.

[Cask at Charlie’s Bar, Copenhagen] An orange beer with a slight haze underneath a thick orange head. The aroma is sweet and very fruity especially with notes of peaches and oranges. The flavor is sweet fruity again with peaches and oranges, but also with a light metallic note, which makes me wonder if it was served just over the edge.

[Cask at Charlie’s Bar, Copenhagen] A deep red beer with a bubbly light brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with strong notes of berries. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of toffee and berries, leading to a dry bitter end, where light notes of toffee still lingers around. But the body is thin.
