Jennings (Marston's)
Regional Brewery
in Cockermouth,
Cumbria,
England 🏴
Owned by
Carlsberg Britvic
Established in 2005
Closed in 2022
In 2009, the Cockermouth floods had a huge impact on the business and the site, forcing Marston’s to implement flood safety features and barricades throughout the site. A few short years after the floods, brewing transferred out of the town and a mass rebrand occurred.
Marston's retrained ownership of the brewery (through Carlsberg UK) until it closed its doors in November 2022

[Cask at Charlie’s Bar, Copenhagen] An orange beer with a slight haze underneath a thick orange head. The aroma is sweet and very fruity especially with notes of peaches and oranges. The flavor is sweet fruity again with peaches and oranges, but also with a light metallic note, which makes me wonder if it was served just over the edge.

[Cask at Charlie’s Bar, Copenhagen] A deep red beer with a bubbly light brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with strong notes of berries. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of toffee and berries, leading to a dry bitter end, where light notes of toffee still lingers around. But the body is thin.

From the bottle, a bright amber colour with a robust head. Hoppy aroma, rather too carbonated.

(Cask at Lion Tavern, Liverpool, 25 July) Colour is amber with brown notes, white disappearing head. Nose is malty, nutty (almond) with some dark fruit. Same goes for the taste: malty, nutty, dark fruit, prunes and a balanced bitterness in the dry, dusty finish. Balance is the word. In perfect condition, as always at the Lion Tavern.
