Description
In the years 1891 and 1892, the Gütermann family built a brewery in Saalfeld that was modern from the perspective of the time. During the last days of the war the brewery was completely destroyed. But the brewery was quickly rebuild; from 1948 to 1991 the brewery was state-owned. At the time of the reunification of Germany in 1989, the brewery was in a technically completely outdated condition. In 1991 the brewery became a private company. After large investments the Bürgerliche Brauhaus Saalfeld became a modern brewery. A share of 23% is owned by Kulmbacher Brauerei AG.

(swing top bottle) Slightly hazy, amber colour with a medium-sized, slowly lacing yellowish foam. Moderately sweet malty, slightly toasty aroma. Initially sweet malty, later drying out, getting slightly bitter towards the malty finish with delicate, well-balanced hops. Nothing special, but pretty drinkable.

Acidic aroma, not in the bad way. Clear brown colour. The flavour is also acidic, refreshingly so.

Sweet and slightly nutty aroma of dark and toasted malt with caramel, bread dough and a touch of herbal hops in the background. Moderately sweet and slightly bitter flavour, medium to light body, smooth carbonation. Toast-malty tasty, minimal roasted notes with melanoidins, also caramel; medium dry, malty, slightly bitter, dense hoppy and a bit slim finish with light aspects of chocolate in the aftertaste. Bügelverschlußflasche: Deep golden to light amber coloured, mid-sized fluffy head, quickly diminishing to a small foamy layer; sweet malty and honey in the nose, molasses and raisins too, not to forget the hoppy traces; rather sweet, a bit alcoholic flavour; short, sweet-malty (with a taste of honey) finish, some faint hoppy edges....A bit too much on the sweet side, but all in all a clean and drinkable, medium-bodied Märzen.
