Bottled. Deeper golden colour with mediumsized white head that disappears quite fast. Aroma is papery, hayish and has some mild buttery and rubbery notes to it. Flavour is rubbery, slightly metallic as well as some cardboard.

500 ml bottle. Pours reddish-brown, lingering tan head. Smells of some dark malts, but also some corn sugar, although somehow this isn’t too bad. At least there’s no skunk for a green-bottled import (but the native version is in a brown bottle? Curse those Heinekens!). I’m tasting this after some honey-roast peanuts, so I’m picking up plenty of sweetness. Very grainy taste up front, but not as corny as the smell suggested. Fizz is more along the lines of a thick cola. In fact, the taste reminds me of the non-alcoholic kvas sodas in Russian neighborhood grocers. Other raters mention rye bread, and that’s in kvas, alright. Not a great dunkel, but more character and spunk than most American "dark" beers, and interesting in itself. Available at Binny’s.of Willowbrook.

500 ml green bottle from Binny’s. Familiar skunky smell of an import lager in a green bottle. Pours a nice looking pils color, short-lived head, that counts for something here. Once the skunk has cleared, though,m there some decent soft water and malt smell. Spicy hops, but they’ve lost individuality by now. Still, not too bad. Just that I hate to think that the birthplace of pilseners can’t manage to get anything over to the US that’s as decent as a Canadian-brewed Pilsner Urquell. But I’ll keep looking.

50 cL bottle. Pours dark brown with a redish glare and a collapsing off-white head. Dry malt aroma with a mild roasted note. Sweet initial flavour, very sweet actually. Shows a light breadish note along the sweet flavour. Sweet and light fruity finish. Light cane sugarish note. WAY too sweet for my liking, tap version does so much better.5-3-4-2-9=2.3
From tap at the Den Engelske, as Den Engelske, 4.5%. Pours clear and golden brown with a redish glare and a lacing white head. Mild spiced and slight roasted malt aroma. Flavour is sweet malty with a mild toasted note. Sweet and mild toasted towards the finish. Ends with a vague bitterness and quite sweet malty. Nice brew and quite easy to drink.6-4-7-3-13=3.3
