0.5 l bottle from 'Bierothek', best before October 2022. Minimally hazy, amber with a large, foamy, stable, off-white head. Sweetish, a little smoky, moderately grassy-spicy aroma of caramel, smoked ham, grains, some citrus and light straw. Gently sweet, malty, moderately bitter, slightly grassy-spicy and a little smoky taste of caramel, grains, straw, nuts, some smoked ham and light citrus, followed by a short, quite bitter, moderately grassy-spicy finish. Medium body, smooth and gently effervescent mouthfeel, average to lively carbonation. Interesting beer, even has a touch of smoke, other than that fairly grainy and bitter.

Rauchiger Geruch. 9/11/11/12/9/11

500ml bottle. Opalescent, amber colour with average to huge, thick, creamy, mostly lasting, moderately lacing, off-white head. Mildly smoky, minimally toasty, slightly caramel malty and herbal hoppy aroma, hints of birch ashes, smoked ham, smoked eel, a touch of juniper, laurel. Taste is minimally toasty, mildly smoky, mellow malty, minimally woody, slightly herbal and grassy hoppy, hints of birch ashes, smoked eel, smoked ham, some juniper, laurel, mild hop bitterness, subtle residual sweetness. Oily texture, smooth, soft, silky, minimally greasy palate, fine, soft, creamy carbonation. Very well crafted, very clean, balanced, harmonious, mild - all the excellence we know from Schlenkerla.

Fläschla (Danke, Jonas!): Copper coloured, a bit unclear, creamy off-white head, moderate sweet-bitter malty nose with honeyish touch and traces of “fishy” smoke, mild but distinctive herbal hops underneath; robust sweet-bitter flavour, medium bodied; lingering and drier herbal and sweet-malty finish with some hops - sticking to the palate - in the aftertaste. Yes! Another well balanced and moreish franconian masterpiece…

Clear amber. Aroma is slight smoke black bread grainy stuff pleasant caramel. Taste is slight smoke again with quite sweet caramel malt base and a somewhat rustic earthy base. Something fresh as well. Traces of copper. Again that slight smoke in the finish. Taking it slow enough on the smoke so that I can enjoy it as well :D

Bottle. Slightly unclear amber color with slightly off-white head. Aroma is very mild smoke, some malt sweetness, bready, mild but beautiful hopspice, the Spalt hops really doing their work here, a bit fruitiness and berries too. Taste is rustic-earthy, bready, again mild smoke and a really well-integrated but properly noticeable hoppiness in there. Soft oily mouthfeel, natural carbonation. Wow, this is just what was missing in Schlenkerla's lineup, a bit of a more rustic beer, but with incredibly nice subtle hop character in there - very complex and balanced at the same time. Hats off, this is pretty amazing!

Bottle. Deep amber, golden lacing foam. Bready honeyish malt with a hint farty smoke and flowery grassy hops. Medium full chewy body, light herb candy, honey bread - fat malt with crisp grainy notes, light salt, broad herbal and grassy counterpoint. Quite moreish.
