Description
Co-founded in 1981 as Pitfield Brewery by Rob Jones (who went on to set up Dark Star brewery) and Martin Kemp operating from 8 Pitfield Street, N1 before moving to 4 Hoxton Square, N1 in 1986. Briefly relocated to Stourbridge following a merger with Premier Midland Ales, becoming Pitfield's Premier Brewing Co in 1990 but in 1991 the company went into liquidation.

Revived in 1996 as Pitfield's Brewery at 14 Pitfield Street, N1 before relocating outside of London to Great Horkesley, Essex in 2006 and then to Moreton, Ongar in 2007.

Martin, Pitfield's brewer/owner retired in 2012 to run a pub in Newmarket. Andy Skene bought the business and continued to brew Pitfield's beers alongside his own Dominion beers. This ceased in 2018.

Bottled as โ€™Mr Lawrence Light Aleโ€™ from the off licence of the same name. Orange pour with no head, this beer is on a low carb(onation) diet. Flatter than a bad Opera singer (or should that be fatter?). Aromas of orange peel and baked apple. Citrus and light malt flavour. Exceedingly dull!

Bottled@chriso pre-gbbf shindig 2012. Amber colour, small off-white to beige head. Aroma is fruity, floral, earthy and a bit caramelly with some slight bitter wooden notes. Flavour is fruity, toffeeish, caramelly and quite floral with a nice bitterness. Nicely balanced.

Bottle at Chrisoโ€™s Pre-GBBF Shindig, 2012. It pours hazy amber, with a thin beige head. The nose is freshly baked brown bread, toast, raisin, currant and plum. The taste is toast, charry, leather, hint of tanginess and rubber, with a dry finish. Medium body and lowish carbonation. Ok.

Chelmsford Beer Festival. Hazy gold beer. Residual white head. Lovely fresh ginger nose. Light palate, a little dry. The fresh ginger follows the nose. A little orange citrus. Medium heat. Semi dry finish. A really nice fresh ginger beer.

Hazy amber beer, good white head. Soap and lagerish malt nose. Light semi dry palate, smooth. Sweet grapefruit, rich malt and a ton of soap. Was really looking forward to this but a real let down. Tried another bottle in 2011 at Chelmsford Beer Festival - that was equally as crap as this one. Infected mess.
