Description
Set up in 1981 as Pitfield Brewery operating from 8 Pitfield Street, N1 before moving to 4 Hoxton Square, N1 in 1986. Briefly relocated to Stourbridge following a merger with Premier Midland Ales, becoming Pitfield's Premier Brewing Co in 1990 but in 1991 the company went into liquidation.

Revived in 1996 as Pitfield's Brewery at 14 Pitfield Street, N1 before relocating outside of London to Great Horkesley, Essex in 2006 and then to Moreton, Ongar in 2007.

Martin, Pitfield's brewer/owner retired in 2012 to run a pub in Newmarket. Andy Skene bought the business and continued to brew Pitfield's beers alongside his own Dominion beers. This ceased in 2018.

Medium, off-white, creamy head with larger bubbles. Hazy brown body. Powerful orangey, medicinal hop aroma. Bitter, meaty taste of medicine and hints of oranges with faintly roasted flavours in the background. Considerable alcohol taste in the aftertaste. Also quite a bit of sweetness. It’s good, but not great. The medicine detracts a bit from it. A very strange beer. Historically interesting. (0.5l bottle, first from the Pitfield Street shop, second time from City Beverage Co, London.)

Bottle. Black beer with an element of red and the head is light. The aroma is sour, herbal, and lightly dry and the flavour is watery, slightly sour, with a lighty dry finish. Overall a disappointing beer.

Dark brown color, beige head. Malt aroma and taste, some rosted malt taste; yeast. Maybe it’s ok as a Porter, anyway not impressive.

Hazy amber color; creamy head. Nice herbal hop aroma. Some malt taste, medium caramel, strong bitterness and some hop aroma. Quite good, almost like an English IPA with the addiction of caramel.

Bottle. Dark beer with a brown light bubbly head. The aroma is fruity, spiced and slightly vinous, the beer has a mulled nature to it. The flavour is mainly sour with a long dry finish. Overall a disappointing beer.

Dark amber color, small head. Some vegetables aroma (seems to be a constant in Pitfield’s beers). Some malt, still a bit dry when too cold, but vegetable (celery), that is not really pleasant; a bith grassy and herbal. If not for the celery, it is quite good, but we don’t feel the need for it.

Dark amber color. Strange smell: compost (?). Full malt taste, quite high bitterness, an impression of composting grass, no hop aroma. The ending bitterness is very long.
It loses the unpleasant compost touch after a few minutes, but keeps a vegetables touch.
