Description
The Czech master brewer František Bedřich Janáček (1845-1925) started to build the brewery in 1894 and it was completed in 1895. Between the two world wars the Janáček Brewery in Uherský Brod belonged among the most modern breweries in Central Europe. The brew-master Jaromír Janáček managed and maintained the family brewery until its nationalisation in 1948. A vast reconstruction of the whole brewery was completed in 1993. The Uherský Brod Brewery belongs to Pivovary Lobkowicz.

bottle from Pivovarsky Klub. Amber-red colour, medium-size head, striong aroma of raspberries. According to the aroma I expected a very sweet beer, which it is not. Quite hoppy and dry with hints of raspberries and a rather shy malty background. Much better than expected.

bottle. Clear golden yellow, large head. Hoppy noase. Bitter-sweet 12° lager, well-balanced and certainly one of the better ones. A pity it is so hard to get, I would love to drink it again.

bottle from Pivní Galerie Praha, labelled Zlatovar Max, ABV 4,1%. Clear golden colour, tiny head. Hoppy nose and another smell I can’t identify. Quite malty at first, becoming more and more hoppy towards the lingering finish. Hints of something burnt, difficult to describe. This bottle was probably brewed by Litovel, I’m not sure whether Zlatovar Opava still brews.

bottle from Galerie Piva near Charles Bridge. Golden yellow, large head, fruity and spicy aroma. Malty, slightly sweet, hints of herbs (byliny = herbs). Hoppy bitterness and perhaps a herbal bitterness in the lingering finish.

Bottle at GBBF Dark chestnut. Slightly sweet bubblegum, bit too sweet for me. Some niceish malt but this stayed on the table a fair while which is never a good sign

Bottle. Slightly fruity aroma. Flavour somehow mouldy. Though not thoroughly unpleasant, not to my liking either. A little watery.
