Description
Hidden away behind the Black Bull in Coniston is the
Coniston Brewing Company.

This outstanding brewery, run by Ian Bradley, is where Bluebird Bitter is made. This 3.6% session beer won Supreme Champion Beer of Britain 1998 at the Great British Beer Festival Olympia London and has continued to be awarded accolades of recent years.

To the pure waters of the Coniston hills - add the finest Challenger hops and wonderfully roasted pale and crystal malts.
Allow the Coniston Brewing Company to use all their skill and instinctive know-how to create what must be described as the finest fully matured cask conditioned Ales.

Bottle, Tebay Services, M6. Amber pour with a middling white head. Fruity, hoppy nose and flavour alongside notes of caramel, biscuit, wood and malts. Perfectly drinkable if veering towards the uninspiring corner of the dancehall.

Cask handpull at GBBF 2015. Clear amber colour lasting white head. Touch of grass but otherwise ok. Grassy dry golden ale. OK. Some bitterness on the finish

Cask gravity at a campsite on the coast of coniston water. For May’s 30th. Mid golden coloured pour with a fleeting loose white head. Aroma is semi sweet, mid caramel, slightly grassy on the nose

Bottle from Adda Kendal. Clear copper coloured pour with a sticky off white head. Aroma is sweet sticky treacle, toffee, grassy, berry. Flavour is composed of sweet toffee, grassy, hedgerow hop, berry. Palate is medium sweet, moderate carbonation. Decent bitter a little sweet.

Cask at the brewpub. Light golden orange coloured pour with a lasting white froth. Aroma is light grains and berry, hay. Flavour is light citrus, berry, straw, little tangy in the finish. Palate is medium light decent cask condition. Lingering grains and citrus. Ok

Cask at the brewpub. Low boost gold. Clear pale yellow coloured pour with a lasting frothy white head. Aroma is subdued, pale grains, berry. Hedgerow hop. Little hay. Flavour is composed of light straw, mineral, pale grains, earthy. Light grass. Palate is light and watery. OK, but dull.

Cask at the brewpub. Aroma is very subdued, little nutty, some dried fruits mid copper coloured pour with a lasting frothy white head. Flavour is composed if light nutty grains, dried fruit, light berry. Palate is light and a little watery . Low carbonation. Not much to it really. OK but dull.

Cask at the brewpub. Clear light orange golden coloured pour with a thin white head. Aroma is odd damp hay, spicy pepper, earthy hedgerow berry and a hint of caramel. Flavour is composed of sweet and tangy orange rind, little hay, caramel, tangy lemon citrus. Palate is quite sweet, tangy, lowish carbonation. A little rough round the edges. Lingering damp hay.

Cask at the brewpub. Clear black coloured pour with reddy hues and a lasting creamy tan head. Aroma is milky roast, mineral, damp campfire, earthy. Flavour is composed of black roast, burnt toast, earthy mineral, twig Palate is light and smooth, lowish carbonation. Tangy bitter roast I. The finish.
