Description
Hardywood officially began its mission to brew with purpose in late 2011 as one of only two craft breweries in the city of Richmond. Our original brewhouse and taproom was a vacant warehouse discovered in a long-forgotten neighborhood known nearly a century prior as Richmond’s German Brewing District. Hardywood has been drawing new life to this forgotten area one draft pour at a time. We now operate a 20-barrel brewhouse and taproom in the original location, as well as a 60-barrel brewhouse and destination brewery in the West Creek area of Richmond, right on the border of Goochland County.
Today, Hardywood continues to develop and deliver on its mission with a sharp focus on brewing quality, sourcing local, environmental stewardship, community engagement, and giving back.

16oz can, purchased at the Hardywood West Creek location. Aroma was light corn notes, plenty of light malt. Not as much lime and salt as I was hoping for, this was a bit too subtle to be honest. Light citrus. Maybe they retooled this a bit too much to make the lime and salt more subtle on purpose, but I'd rather just have a lime and salt gose.

Can pour at West Creek. Poured a light cloudy amber color with a small white head. Aroma was light honey, with some light sweet malts. Flavor was pleasant, enjoyable light citrus. Easy to drink. Liked it more than their Fightin' Hokies.

Draft at West Creek. Poured a clear golden color. Light white head. Aroma was crisp malts with a decent lime character. Stands out, was really pleasant. Better than the cream ale with lime which was really hidden. This had the kind of refreshing lime you'd get from a citrus-forward gose.

Can (1/28/22) pour from trade with AirForceHops--thanks, Chris! It's a dark, dark brown--virtually opaque black--with nice sparkle, finger-width light brown head with fair retention, light viscosity and no lacing. Aroma is strong earthy roasted malt and coffee over milk chocolate. Taste is strong earthy roasted malt and coffee, toffee, bittersweet chocolate. Mouthfeel is light-to-medium bodied with smooth, frothy texture, no sign of alcohol, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, the base Baltic Porter is here but additional flavors come through as nice complements. A bit thin. Nice.
