Description
Hardywood officially began its mission to brew with purpose in late 2011 as one of only two craft breweries in the city of Richmond. Our original brewhouse and taproom was a vacant warehouse discovered in a long-forgotten neighborhood known nearly a century prior as Richmond’s German Brewing District. Hardywood has been drawing new life to this forgotten area one draft pour at a time. We now operate a 20-barrel brewhouse and taproom in the original location, as well as a 60-barrel brewhouse and destination brewery in the West Creek area of Richmond, right on the border of Goochland County.

Today, Hardywood continues to develop and deliver on its mission with a sharp focus on brewing quality, sourcing local, environmental stewardship, community engagement, and giving back.

Draft pour at Hardywood West Creek. Poured a dark cola color with a small, light brown head. Aroma was caramel toasted malts, light roast. Malts, with a nice crispness. Dried fruits. Smooth and pleasant stuff. I'd drink this again.

12 ounce bottle from Total Wine in Reston, VA - viscous black pour - sticky tan lace - raspberry provides a really nice fruity and tart balance to to obviously sweet base beer, so this actually presents as medium tart, medium sweet, with strong tannins and a mild underlying savory quality - moderate whiskey warmth and only a hint of vanilla - flavors intermingle to give faint touches reminiscent of red wine - tart finish - I quite enjoy this.

I had some concern cause this was sitting in my fridge for months (dated dec17 2020) I guess a year actually 😅 but it's actually quite nice, light raspberry, medium vanilla, nice base stout notes of chocolate and hints of boozy.

Bottle from Tavour. Aroma of spice cake and vanilla with chocolate in the back. Black with brown head that bunches around the collar of the glass. Flavor is ginger spice and heavy vanilla. Slight booze showing. A bit thin on mouthfeel.

On tap downtown, pours a murky yellow, frothy white head. Look is the best part. Nose is honey and cheap melon and peach ring candy. Flavor is very sweet, lots of candy and honey, but also this strange sweet n low character, some candied peach. Finishes full bodied, off dry.
