Description
Founded in 1784 by Jean Baptiste De Bruin and still a family brewery to this day; known as Brouwerij Schelfaut until 1919, when the name was changed to Brouwerij Bios by Paul Van Steenberge, who became the head of the operation in 1922. Currently operated by his great-grandson Jef Versele (since 1998). Underwent many technical upgrades and expansions since then, most notably in 2017 when new buildings were installed and production capacity was significantly increased.

Dark amber color; giant creamy head. Complex nose: wood, malt, light cherries (still sweet); very light smokey. Quite sweet, not so much character.

Small thick head, lightish brown in colour. Slightly cloudy bock. Aroma consisted of citrus, sugary yeast with hints of caramel and brown sugar. First sip contained small tastes of wine. Light grape taste. Not the best bock that I have tasted but it wasn't the worst either. Could do with less winey grape lingering aftertaste.

Slightly hazy brown color, thick off-white head. Aroma is malty, bit metallic, some hops. Chocolat malty taste, but very weak, metallic hint, bit spicy and fruity maybe. Sticky palate.

Cloudy golden color; creamy head. A real Grand Cru, with a strong malty and spicy aroma, dry; light fruitness developing later. High carbonation, but very smooth, again with malt and spices. Pretty short final.

The aroma is sweet fruity with notes of berries. The color is a deep red and it has a huge beige head. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of fruit and sweet berries. The alcohol runs prickling over the tongue. A very nice beer. (2 years over BB Date: A hazy deep red beer with no head. The aroma is sweet with notes of alcohol and prunes. The flavor is sweet with notes of alcohol, but also acidic. 6/3/6/4/13)

Blond color. Strange beer: the aroma goes from the paper to the apple, hay; the body presents a reasonable mouthfeel, some sweetness, spiciness (coriander), fruitness (apples). Very original! not necessarly the best…

4 year old bottle I poured this into a snifter-type glass, not quite a Trappist style. It originally poured out straw colored like a Duvel, then turned yellowish-brown as sediment swirled in. The foamy head almost boils away. It's got a big Belgian smell and taste of oranges, coriander, candi sugar and honey. First beer I tasted that reminded me of honey, after dozens of “honey weisses.” Rather pleasant to sip while relaxing.

The aroma is very sweet with notes of spices, lemon, oranges, and yeast. The color is a hazy orange and it has a beutiful huge though collapsing white head. The flavor is dominated by sweetness combined with a mixture of spices, I think corriander is one, a quite nice combination of sweetness and spicyness. In the middle the alcohol runs prickling over the tongue. In the end the spicyness turns woody dry with a slight hoppyness to it. The mouthfeel is a little thin in the beginning, but when the alcohol kicks in it is great. A quite nice beer - one of the better Triples on my tastebuds.
