Description
Founded in 1784 by Jean Baptiste De Bruin and still a family brewery to this day; known as Brouwerij Schelfaut until 1919, when the name was changed to Brouwerij Bios by Paul Van Steenberge, who became the head of the operation in 1922. Currently operated by his great-grandson Jef Versele (since 1998). Underwent many technical upgrades and expansions since then, most notably in 2017 when new buildings were installed and production capacity was significantly increased.

0.33 l bottle shared at the Goblet Beer Store with the HHP judges crew. Dark ruby red to brown with a reddish hue, small beige head. Aroma is roasty, burnt, fruity, red fruit, red currant, dried fruit, also alcohol. Smooth, sweet, sugary. Sweet bready, some dried fruit, maple syrup. Medium body, boozy, strong, too sweet. Sweet and roasty finish.

0.33l bottle, thx H! Very dark red-brown body, thick off-white head. Caramelly, grape jelly, light wine. Smooth red wine jelly taste, caramel, roast, warmth, quite Belgian, but roastier. I like it.

Thanks Luigi for this bottle that I have opened at home, Epalinges, yesterday. A classical witbeer, on the Belgian way, good partner for the summer, this one is rather dry and mineral, side of coriander, orange peel, wheat, malt, hop, regular, 12.01.21

Tap at altiAle. Semi clear lake yellow rocky white head, lacing. Flavor is mostly grainy, rice, with some lavender and orange peel, some spice. Flavor is sweet no bitterness some juniper maybe and sage, lime. mint. Flavorings, it seems, then adjuncts. Flat and sugary boring starchy vegetable finish. Meh. Meh.

From Monoprix, in Paris. Personnaly, it is not my favourite witbier, some syrup of glucose, too sweet, fruity, industrial taste, 07.11.18, at Paris.

This 750ml bottle was located at Trader Joe’s in Santa Fe early fall last year. Slightly cooled, I remove the cage and cork and pour into a Straffe Hendrik tulip glass. The view is a dark brown body topped by a heroic head of creamy tan, very fine bubbles. The smell is stewed dark fruit, malt and grain. I lift the glass for a taste. I get plums, cherries, malt, candy and white bread. Subdued in its flavors and easy to drink, not blazing any new trails.

Bottle, best before 2022. Murky mezzo mix colour. Ripe banana sweetness, oxidised, caramel. Front heavy, edgy fizzy. This one hasn't aged well. Heavy on the booze. Sticky.
