Description
Founded in 1784 by Jean Baptiste De Bruin and still a family brewery to this day; known as Brouwerij Schelfaut until 1919, when the name was changed to Brouwerij Bios by Paul Van Steenberge, who became the head of the operation in 1922. Currently operated by his great-grandson Jef Versele (since 1998). Underwent many technical upgrades and expansions since then, most notably in 2017 when new buildings were installed and production capacity was significantly increased.

Bottle: Poured a reddish color ale with a small foamy head with good retention and some minimal lacing. Aroma of oak notes with some cherry notes and light tart notes. Taste is also a mix of cherry and oak with some malt notes and a slightly tart finish. Body is about average with good carbonation. Enjoyable without necessarily being overly complex.

330ml bottle from local Carrefour. Unclear amber with a large white head. Confidently sweet but reigns in the carbonation. Nicely balanced, drinks well for strength. Decent.

Cloudy deep amber with a beautiful two finger off-white frohty head. Toasted malt, lovely dried apricot esters, spicy notes, burnt sugar, subtle calvados & oak barrel, some hop. Light sweet & bitter. Warming alcohol. A nice example of making a good beer more complex by barrel aging instead of ruining it.
