12oz bottle. Filtered brown body. Thin beige head. Starts off pretty classic and true to style but finishes kind of thin and hollow. Allows the malts to shine in a unique way, this does come off as a Strong Ale despite the semi-reasonable ABV. I like Brown Ales, but this really lacks life. OKish.

On tap at the brewpub
Pours clear dark brown with a medium sized beige head, good lacing. Aroma of oak, dark malts, vanilla and pine. Flavors of oak, vanilla, bourbon and pine resin
Good, but heavy on the oak and pine

12oz bottle. Filtered orange-amber body. Thin, fading white head. Relatively thin for the style malt-wise, but it works. Pleasant hop balance. Really clean and drinkable. Well brewed, no off tones, nice lagering. Pretty simplistic but well done nonetheless.

Flarra.

Brown coloured body with a thick, four centimetre tall light brown head. Aroma of nuts, caramel, yeast, bread and some funky cardboardie malt - but no hops at all in the nose. Medium-bodied; Strong roasted/toasted malts with a little mushroom and soy sauce flavours and a tiny bit of hops noticeable, but alcohol, nuts and bitter flavours are stronger. Aftertaste is deep and funky with malt and alcohol the strongest, followed by nuts, earth and mushrooms with hops near the back on flavours. Overall, a pretty poor black IPA and beer in general - this doesn’t show much flavour and when it does, doesn’t align to the style and doesn’t taste very good in general. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 12-July-2015 for US$2,27 sampled at home in Washington on 30-July-2015.

12oz bottle. Filtered copper-orange bay. Big, frothy off-white head. The aroma is pleasant, mild lemon and grapefruit tones. An enjoyable IPA, a touch antiquated for 2015. Kind of a classic quality US example. Some English tendencies, but with a respectably bold hop profile too. OK.

12oz bottle. Filtered copper-burgundy body. Thin, creamy, off-white/beige head. Pretty solid on the malt side, but the hops give it a kind of an odd earthy feel. A pinch bigger than medium bodied, pretty easy going. An OK example of the style.
