22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours hazy dark ruby red color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of huge caramel, toffee, toast, brown bread, brown sugar, light chocolate, raisin, fig, date, wood smoke, tobacco, nuttiness, and smoke/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready/smoked malt and yeast fruitiness; with great strength. Taste of huge caramel, toffee, toast, brown bread, brown sugar, light chocolate, raisin, fig, date, wood smoke, tobacco, nuttiness, and smoke/toasted earthiness. Minimal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toffee, toast, brown bread, brown sugar, light chocolate, nuttiness, raisin, fig, date, wood smoke, tobacco, and smoke/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/smoked malt and yeast fruitiness; with zero cloying sweetness on the finish. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very smooth, creamy, and lightly slick/bready mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is extremely well hidden with zero warming present after the finish. Overall this is an incredible smoked doppelbock! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/smoked malt and yeast fruitiness; and dangerously smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

On tap @ The Mayor of Old Town. Pours a bit hazy golden appearance with a white head. Twangy, stinky feet, cheesy aroma. Moderately tart. Pineapple, lactic, puckering flavor. Eh.

Must be an old bottle, hope it aged well, heheh. Smells almost like a barley wine. First taste is as expected, quite winter spice like. I don’t miss these beers and I don’t think its a brown ale, only in looks. Yes this must have some kindah winter spice in there. Stronger intense spice begins to build. Wew, way to impressive to be a simple brown. Begins to get mouth coating. Long higher alky medicinal finish. Seems like more than 7% to me, but hey, I’m just a neophyte. Worst brown ale I’ve had in a while says my girlie lager taste buds.

Tap - clear light amber - very minimal lace - nose is toffee, dark bread, some cinnamon - pretty simple, with nothing in the way of yeast character complexity that one would want from the style - flavor is toasty, nutty, with some toffee - a bit of warm spice character and a touch of clove - finish is lingery toffee and spices - more simplistic than the style should be, but still enjoyable enough.

Had this draft beer during the 7/4 beer tour 2014 at Bowsers. Darker, looks like dark iced tea. Sweeter aroma with a tart olfactory backbone. However, disappointed that the tartness does not carry over to the taste. First taste is rather cloying and sweet. with no carbonation. Yes, volatile and rudely medicinal. Could be more civilized, but for 10%, it is what it is. Well, I’m not a fan of wee heavy so I guess its on style. Rude stuff with a sweet nose.

Premium lager my white ass. This is an amber. Mild, medium bodied. 1900 is a pretty good description...tastes antiquated. Murky unfiltered body. Lacy soapy off-white head. Borderline infected. Pretty shabby.
