As far as amber ales go, this one ainβt too bad - a sturdy malt base with some flavors of biscuit, toasted bread, and toffee - moderate, herbal hoppiness swells from under that, complimenting the semi-dry finish - a touch of tanginess on the tail end - nothing spectacular, but a solid, sessionable beer.

Deep brown coloured body with light ruby and copper tints and a thinnish tan head. Aroma of smoked peat, roasted malt, caramel and some raisins - pretty light for a smoked beer. Full-bodied; Deep pungent caramel, malty and obviously smoked flavours come through immediately with little time for anything else. Pungent smokiness afterwards with some caramel, a touch of malt, but very strong and pretty overpowering and bitter. Overall, a good beer, and definitely showing the smoke flavours, but perhaps a bit too much, I feel. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased earlier today at Liquor Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 14-March-2010, sampled at home in Washington.

Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a medium sized dark brown head that lingered. The aroma was sweet chocolate syrup with a hint of vanilla. The flavor was strong chocolate syrup, bitter dark chocolate, light toasty malts and hints of vanilla and marshmallow followed by faint floral hops. The finish was long with bitter dark chocolates. Thick and silky smooth body. Excellent.

tap @ OTH. pours dark brown, tan head. Aroma of pleasant spices, ginger and mild chocolate and herbal notes. Flavors, nice wonderful warming spices, sweet floral note of lavender, ginger spices with a mild chocolate-caramel finish. The FCB beers always seem light on the palate and these off shoots pack a nice punch to them, more complex than their regular line-up. Finish keeps a nice chocolate/cocoa and spicy touch that is softened by the lavender that adds for a mild silky floral finish.

tap @ OTH. Pours dark amber, light tan head. Aroma is malty, sweet caramel, light notes of dark fruits; dates, figs. Flavor, similar to aroma, malty, sweet caramel, dark fruits, possibly brown sugar and a profile that gains a lot more caramel as it warms up. Light palate but ends with a warming abv mouthfeel. Dark malts followed by more dark fruits, sticky sugary finish, light roast, pleasantly accompanied by dark fruits.
