Description
Creative brewing is all about not sticking to the same old formula. Since 2008 we have experimented with different combinations of hops and ingredients to find both traditional and excitingly new tasting ales. We brew it with the care and attention we believe it deserves. Finest English malt is the base for all Backyard Brewhouse beers but it does not stop there. Combinations with hops such as New Age American, Old English, Slovenian and New Zealand as well as one or two other secret ingredients have helped make all our beers popular and distinctive. We are committed to creating new and interesting beers to sit alongside our range of core and regular products.

Cask at Head of Steam, Birmingham. Mostly black with a little ruby red shine, small beige top. This one had a deep dark malt, chocolate, light coffee, dark fruit, light edge of spice. Nice smooth body to this. Not overly sweet or bitter and flavours hold up well. Good.

Cask at Head of Steam, Birmingham. Mostly clear gold with small white head. Grapefruit, grass, hop resin, grains, semi dry with a light tang to it. It tasted a bit stale to me but there is a regular turnaround of cask in this venue so I'll put it down to the beer.

Bottle from Connolly's Wine Merchants. Clear amber with small but well formed white top. Malty aroma with notes of caramel, pears, raisins, spice. Taste of brown soft bread, caramel, pear, citrus peel, quite bitter in the finish. Near medium bodied, fairly slick and flavours hang around the palate well for a bitter. This is very good.

Can from Connolly's Wine Merchants. Clear red to amber colour with small creamy looking top. Aroma of raspberries, straw, slight herbal note. Taste start fruity with the raspberry coming through reasonably well, then hibiscus gives it a more herbal tone, some peppery notes. Slightly dry finish with some modest bitterness, oily but smooth body. Quite good.

Can from Connolly's Wine Merchants. An imperial mild does seem a contradiction but you have to try these things. Clear chestnut with small light beige head. Aroma of nuts, chocolate, alcohol, digestive biscuits. Taste has a pleasant nutty chocolate biscuit vibe to it with a hint of floral and minty hops. Medium to full bodied, light cloyingness but a nice fine carbonation. It grew on me this one, not the most complex dark beers for the ABV but was quite tasty in the end.
