Bottle from Trader joe’s. Hearty nut brown color with a foamy brown head. Dark doppelbock smell. From the first sip, I pick strong dark malts, immediately balanced by noble hop alphas. A bit syrupy and stick. Some doffee flavor, and a bit of phenol and diacetyl to throw it off center. Otherwise, a decent winter beer. But not the one you’d want to be stuck with throughout Lent.

750ml bottle from Trader Joes; Nose of nutmeg, cloves, and corriander mixed with brown sugar and caramel; hazy brown with a big beige head; flavor of cloves, corriander, sweet dark friuts, and caramel. Decent dubbel!

Hazy medium orange body with spritzy carbonation, medium tight head. Banana, clove, and bubblegum are prominent in the aroma. The body is tangy and somewhat tart/sour with clove, bread, and wet hay notes, rather thin and not as creamy as I’d like. Spicy, tart finish. The aroma stands out more than the flavor.

12 oz. bottle, made by Schell’s. Unlike the Trader Joe’s Jumping Cow amber I had yesterday, this one has a bit more ruddy malt, under a white, slightly lacy head. Could almost pass for a Honker’s Ale. Taste shows a little more hop bite than the JC, too. Citrussy bite of NW hops, but not a lot. My label claims 7.1% alcohol. Still, it goes down pretty quickly, and forgettably. Not too bad for a "store brand" beer from the provisioners of "Two Buck Chuck."

12 oz bottle, from "Steinhaus Brewing, New Ulm, MN. 100th rating for this beer. Maybe there are two brewers doing the same recipe for Trader Joe’s? Decent Amber color under a thick off-white head. Nice malt smell with no off notes. Taste is basic standard amber. Not a noticeable hop to balance the malt, giving it a slight touch of saccharine, or perhaps some corn hidden away. A bit of bitter aftertaste, maybe suggesting Cascades. Okay beer. Label looks slapped together with Dover clip art.

Very dark brown with an inch of head. Spicy, pruney, plummy, peary nose. Anisey, spicy character with a herbal note (sage? juniper?). Lots of malt and a big alcohol kick. Nice.

12 oz bottle from Trader Joes; Nose of toffee, banana, and spices; murky brown with a small tan head; flavor has banana, brown sugar, and cloves and ginger (just like I put in the pumpkin pies I baked this morning!) Tastes almost like a pumpkin beer without the pumpkin. Enjoyable here on Christmas Day!

12 oz bottle from Trader Joes; nose is grainy and grassy; clear gold with a big white head; flavor semi-sweet grain, kind of tastes like Coors (I wonder why?)

Draught at the brewpub. Nut brown, small head. Fruity strawberry aroma, Medium sweet and medium bodied. Lightly roasty with some surprising estery flavour of tropical fruits. Medium bitterness. Not what I expected, but I like it.

Bottle from Trader Joes. Aroma of caramel, bread, and perhaps banana. Hazy ripe apricot flesh color (if held in front of strong light) with a beige head that lasted awhile. Rather thin bodied with fizzy/creamy carbonation. Definitely starts with clove and bread, and some banana comes along in a bit. The impact is somewhat spicey. The finish is fairly dry and lightly bitter in a herb/spice way. Tasty and good value.
