Slightly cloudy amber/copper coloured body with a thinnish white head. Aroma of pale malt, cardboard, some old hops and some sugars. Medium-bodied; Strong malt flavour with caramel and toffee at the front of the tastes. Fades off well into a suprisingly present taste. Aftertaste shows some quality, a decent flavour. Overall, a decent amber for the price, and even though its available at Trader’s, its not a bad beer. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased by jon[r888710] at Trader Joe’s in Tyson’s Corner, Virginia on 14-November-2004 with him.

Thanks to Darkover for the trade. This beer was a pleasant surprise. Pours a very dark brown (almost black) that is not quite opaque. Medium thick beige head and thin lacing. Nice coffee and chocolate aroma. The body is not very thick but is very smooth and drinkable. Roasted coffee, sweet chocolate and malt flavors. The finish is lightly bitter with a lingering coffee aftertaste. Easily the best Trader Joe’s beer I have tried and a pretty good Stout to boot.

Thanks to Darkover for the trade. Orange-amber color with a very thin off-white head and very little lacing. Light caramel malt aroma. Thin-bodied with astringent hops and alcohol at the forefront with not enough malt to balance it out. The finish does contain some sweetness but the underlying bitterness throws the whole thing off. Overall this is pretty much the same quality as the other Trader Joe’s beers I have tried.

Thanks to Lord Gorlock for this one! This pours a light gold color with a large frothy head that began to fade immediately. The aroma is fresh, green, undried hops. The flavor is sweet with a touch of bitterness in the finish. The flavor is very weak overall. Thin body.

Bottled. A good beer except, perhaps, for a little over the top coffee-ness. Pours a proper black body under a thin tan head. Extremely bitter coffee smell and taste. But somewhere in there, I was getting an impression of toasted marshmallows and cappuccino Jelly Bellys. I got this bottle at the brewery, but It’s otherwise sold in the Trader Joe’s chain.
