Description
The entire idea of Oriel Beer went back in 2015 when we created the brand and started to make the building from scratch. Oriel Beer is a small family brewery, fully operated by ourselves, located in Bucharest, Romania.
The name Oriel comes from the archangel of light, wisdom, illumination and sun. He is a patron of the arts and science for his ability to inspire and one of the seven archangels who preside over the world.
He sparked our mind with ideas and we created this beautiful project.
Since we are a very small brewery, our production capacity is very limited and we can produce around 200 hectoliters per year, but we aim to expand in short time.

Gusher. Really cloudy amber out of a sedated bottle, huge frothy head. The aroma is quite bright and fruity - fresh and dried plums and apricots, fermented fruit tartness, gentle Țuica notes (could be taken for plum marmalade by an uninitiated drinker), some toasted caramel rounds things up. Light woody/basement notes. All in all - a pretty round and mellow aroma. Tastes even better - a dry alcoholic start without the ethanol burn, subtle fruity tartness, followed by stale dried fruit subdued sweetness. The right (high and massaging) carbonation, the right (dangerously easy drinking) body. Haven't had a tripel this good in a while.

Almost opaque dark ruby with faint clear highlights, beige head with some lacing. The aroma is sticky dark sugars, maple syrups and oak vanilla. Surprisingly, almost no alcohol in the nose. On the other hand, you get light acetic notes (from the barrel?) and some wood too. No vinegar in the taste, there's a light note of something more resembling a wine barrel, which does rather good here, crating complexity and balancing out the sugars. And the sugars are still stronger, yet they don't feel sticky or plain. The alcohol is barely there - I'd prefer more heat. And of course, the barrel vanilla / maple syrup notes are here too, though not as strong as in the Jack Daniel's version - and maybe that's even better. Just the right mouthfeel, carbonation and all the other secondary metrics. One thing it's missing is a spicier Belgian yeast character. Overall, a really well done, complex and enjoyable strongie. Excellent.

Really dark ruby-brown, clear ruby highlights, small beige head. The aroma is balanced cherry jam sweetness, dark treacle and some dark bread / brownie pie crust. The alcohol slightly spices things up. The tase is the same dark malty goodness, with much less cherry syrup and more cocoa / chocolate. The only complaint is the body - it just does not feel like a 12% abv monster - it ether needs more sugars or more alcohol to keep it big - but the beer is a bit short on both. Otherwise, excellent.

BOTTLE. Cloudy amber, off-white head. The aroma ranges from fruity jammy malts, to tart bright dried stone-fruit (apricots?) to hoppy citrus notes. There's a distinct spicy fresh grass/green pepper note that gets stronger as it goes. Just a hint of alcohol. The hop presence is not as strong as in a conventional big IPA - it is indeed a hybrid rather than a hopped up quad. Same with the taste - it is juicier and overall easier drinking than ordinary Belgian strongies, but not a downright hop bomb - in fact, even the bitterness is quite humble. Big creamy and easy going mouthfeel, big soft massaging carbonation. Yep, they managed to keep a good balance between the two ancestor beer styles (it still a notch more Belgian, I'd say), and get a really big easy drinker while at it.

Almost clear dark ruby, diminishing beige head. So yeah, there you have it - dark fruit, spicy alcohol, more than enough Bourbon vanilla goodness, light chocolate perhaps, some toasted bread maybe. It is not infinitely complex, but certainly got all it could from that JD barrell. The taste follows the aroma - some dark fruit, but otherwise not much complexity from the malts is left, pretty hot alcohol which works fine here, and finally a gentle kick back of Bourbon vanilla. The body is expectedly thin and easy to drink (especially, if you like harder alcohol). Solid.
