Shaker pint nitro draft at the brewery in Lexington, Kentucky. The pour is an opaque brown black with a light tan head. The aroma is somewhat stale coffee, roast malt, whisper of sweet, somewhat vanilla. The taste is the roast up front, the coffee notes and the finish features a mix of sweet vanilla and black licorice. The palate is medium bodied, with the soft nitro mouth feel. The softly bitter coffee taste carries the finish. Decent take on the style that I am admittedly too critical of.

Kentucky Fried Charleston Trip Beer #37. Draft at the brewery. Listed as XXX on the chalkboard, but I could detect no bourbon, and I believe the commercial description neglects to mention it. Pours a clear medium brown color with a thin creamy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of strong jalapeno. Some mild smoke peeks out and a bit of roast in the finish. The taste is strong jalapeno heat, roast, caramel, mild smoke. Medium bodied, lingering heat.
