Nonic pint draft at Eiderdown in Louisville, Kentucky. The pour is a hazed brown copper with a well formed small tan head that leaves behind great lacing. The aroma is initially bright red wine and oak character, nicely integration with a caramel nut maltiness. The taste continues with the nice integration of the wood oak barrel notes, which are more Bourbon than red wine in the flavor, and the malt fresh natural nut and light sweet. The palate is medium to heavier bodied, soft natural carbonation, and the alcohol is nicely balanced into the beer. Fun beer, doesn’t hit you over the head with the barrel and booze like so many of these style beers do. I had no idea this was a collaboration with Baird until I saw the RB listing.

Draft: Nearly clear, dirty gold with a thin white head. Aroma of wheat, berries.... Taste is banana, clove, spices, berry, malt. Pretty good.

on tap at Nakameguro Taproom. I have never experienced this kind of aroma before - it is really herbal, almost grassy - but in the good way. Lot of pine esters that feel somewhat refreshing - what is unusual for a +9% beer. Taste is also very piney (shouldn’t really be a surprise as this is what the name suggests), with some citrus undertones. Feels more light-bodied as it actually is, aftertaste is strongly bitter and lingers along for some time. No food with this one, just a glass of water to clear your palate before the next sip!

on tap from Nakameguro Taproom. This is a bourbon bomb! I have had some beer aged in whiskey barrels before but this really beats them. There is strong, sweet and rich bourbon nose, with some mellowed hops in the background. Taste confirms the first impression as this full bodied beer has a lot of malt sweetness, flavoured by bourbon barrel and with hop bitterness in the background. This is a BIG beer, with capital letters! I spent almost two hours with 400 ml, enjoying every minute of it.

Russet, brown color. Big bourbon nose with vanilla beans, but not so much oak. The mouth is full bodied and alcohol is really well hidden for such high ABV. Amazing bourbon notes. Malty. Big bad assed beer and really really good. Tons of bourbon in the finish. Fantastic.

Med golden brown color. Frothy white head. Passion fruit and stone fruit in the nose with a big malty presence. The mouth is medium full body with lots of tangerines, a touch or durian and passion fruit. The beer is deceivably drinkable, though I prefer my IIPAs drier, this is respectively.

Dark brown color. Malty, roasty, hazelnut, fairly dry with chocolate nose. Fairly hoppy. Med-full body. Amazing balance. Much more of a porter than a brown, but excellent balance. Great depth. Nice linger mildly bitter finish.
