Description
Initiated by 3 young graduates, the Ninkasi was born from a simple idea: to implant the concept of American micro-breweries in France. This project was completed in 1997 and takes place in Lyon, on the Gerland site. In 2012, the factory moved 50km from Lyon, to Tarare more precisely (1 avenue Edouard Herriot). The new playground for our brewers has a capacity of 5,000 liters per brew (i.e. 23,000 HL / year). In 2023, Ninkasi moved to its new brewery, still in Tarare.

Note: The original Gerland location closed for works until 2027.

Draft. A slightly hazy yellow beer with a huge white head. The aroma has strong notes of lemons on a lightly malty background. The flavor is sweet with light notes of malt and lemons, that towards the finish becomes bitter and dry. The body is light. A bit boring - lacks a spark.

Bottled 330ml. -Unclear orange/amber coloured, small off-white head that went away nowhere for a while, sugary fruity nose. Moderate malty, yeasty and quite fruity with notes of brown sugar and spices. Bitterish hoppy finish. Pleasant beer, really nice surprise.

750ml bottle @ Christmas tasting on 28 December 2010. Thanks to Caspar for this one. Hazy dark brown colour with lasting beige head. Rather a good darkish malt beer. Doesn’t taste of 13%. Good condition. Good in mouth. Lovely malts.

Draft. A hazy red-brown beer with a thin tan head. The aroma has notes of coffee and chocolate - like a cappuchino. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of coffee combined with medium notes of chocolate and roasted malt, leading to a dry and lightly finish where the coffee and a note of cocoa beans lingers. I love an experimental French beer - maybe the best French beer I’ve ever had.

ChrisOs Christmas Tasting. Very hazy gold beer with a very small white head. Softish palate with mild carbonation. Marmaladish orange with sweet caramel malt underneath. Finishes soft. Like the way this beer delivers it’s hops in a soft way - makes a change from the usual slap accross the chops!

ChrisOs Christmas Tasting. Hazy brown beer with a residual tan head. Light soft palate. Mildly sour but sugary as well. Coca cola and generic fruits - well joined up. A pinch of spice in the finish which is soft and somewhat creamy. Not bad. Hides the alcohol well.
