Description
Initiated by 3 young graduates, the Ninkasi was born from a simple idea: to implant the concept of American micro-breweries in France. This project was completed in 1997 and takes place in Lyon, on the Gerland site. In 2012, the factory moved 50km from Lyon, to Tarare more precisely (1 avenue Edouard Herriot). The new playground for our brewers has a capacity of 5,000 liters per brew (i.e. 23,000 HL / year). In 2023, Ninkasi moved to its new brewery, still in Tarare.

Note: The original Gerland location closed for works until 2027.

Golden color. Light but nice hoppy aroma. Good body, malty enough, with a very good hopping, very grassy, quite fruity.

Bottled. The helpful waitress wanted to serve this with a shot of raspberry syrup, but had no problems to serve it to me unblended. Cloudy pale yellow with lively creamy head. Citric aroma with notes of red berries. Less acidic than the original Berliner Weisses, and also maltier. Tart, yet rounded with some citric acid present. Ninkasi's rendition of Berliner Weisse is more accessible and less hardcore, but still feels genuine. A good one!

Intransparently black. Very roasty with loads of coffee. Really dry with rounded, bold maltiness. Grassy bitterish finish with a touch of metal. Very similar to a certain Irish product.

Dark brown. Loads of coffee aroma up front. Malty and roasty, fairly sweet. Fruity with notes of plums. Rich, soft and powerful, but not overly complex.

Deep clear red. Vague raspberry aroma. Acidic with clean, hard maltiness. A mix of berries and fruits along with a distinct acidity looks promising on paper, but in reality it doesn't really work out. It might be complex and interesting, but all the flavours doesn't melt together. Citric finish.

Clear golden. Fruity black currant aroma. Clean, rounded maltiness. The strong fruitiness doesn't make it overly sweet. An easy drinking ale with a short finish, and nearly no bitterness.

Hazy bronze colour. Hoppy, flowery nose with a touch of black berries. Sweet with clean, rounded mouthfeel. The hops are aromatic rather than bitter, resulting in a perfumy finish.

Hazy dark amber color. Aroma of malt, cork, a bit sour; carbonic acid. Dry, a bit astringent, good body structure, quite good malt; some caramel. Quite unusual in the French landscape, pleasant.

Beautiful amber color; nice head. Nice hoppy aroma. Very good body, malty, a bit sweet and fruity (the Cascade hop), but it should be more bitter at the end. Very good.
