Inspired by the brewing scene on the West Coast of America Julia Austin founded Tyne Bank Brewery in 2011. Building on the Norths historic love of beer, our craft ales soon became so popular we outgrew our first home. So in 2016 we invested and crowdfunded, to relocate to our new home, an industrial-style, 13,000 sq ft warehouse with tap room and events space on the edge of Ouseburn, home to Newcastle’s vibrant creative community just a short stroll from the city centre. Here drinkers can enjoy a pint whilst watching the brewhouse in action.
Cask @ GBBF 2016. Pours a golden color with a small white head. Has a fruity strong strawberry aroma. Fruity malty creamy strawberry flavor. Has a fruity malty strawberry finish.
Bottle at home – was birthday present from my nephew. Not much nose – a hint of citrus thats all. Pours mid amber, with a small white rapidly disappearing head. Only very lightly carbonated. Mouthfeel gives fresh crisp apples, but the hops come through pleasantly at the end. Not my normal cup of tea, but very drinkable and moreish.
Keg at the Old Horse, Leicester. Light brown, clear with a bit of white head. Resiny/gluey smell with some root beer and cinnamon notes. Sweet taste - slightly syrupy - with a slightly earthy bitter finish. Cocoa bitters and sarsaparilla in the aftertaste. Soft carbonation. Quite tasty and moreish.
Cask at Beer House, Newcastle airport. Golden colour, white foam head leaving lacing and citrusy aroma. Taste is malt, toffee, yeast with some fruity, citrus and vanilla notes. Light bodied, soft carbonation, dry finish. Quite OK.
