Cask conditioned at GBBF. My first Scottish ale designated as such here, but probably much too strong to be a genuine, traditional example of this more and more elusive style. Thin but stable, light beige head, colour hazy reddish brown. Aroma pleasantly malt sweet, cookies, touch of chocolate cake, dried plums, hazelnut paste, candied dates, butterscotch, banana as well as some ’FFF’ (freshly fermented farmland). Sweet cookies in the mouth, malt sweet, very caramelly, even butterscotch-like, tad chocolatey, raisins and dates with some fried banana and even a hint of candied orange; soft, fluffy, smooth mouthfeel. Finishes malt sweet (but not cloying in any way), caramelly, with some lightly tingling carbonation, a little bit sourish, with a dash of tea-like herbal hoppiness in the end. Pleasant beer, ’lighter’ than a wee heavy indeed, but I do not have much to compare it to...
