Description
In the beginning Langton Brewery started at the back of the Bell Inn, East Langton in 1999. Originally, the brewery only intended to supply the pub and the local cricket club over the road. However, people started to really enjoy drinking the beer, and the team rather enjoyed crafting it. Especially after the head brewer came up with a little recipe called Inclined Plane. So it was decided to up production and move Langton Brewery to the idyllic Grange farm at Thorpe Langton, Leicestershire in 2005.

We are now in the middle of our journey and the popularity of our beers continues to grow. We have modernised our brand, bought new kit, lots more casks and are employing more folk like us. We are supplying local outlets, pubs, restaurants, hotels and farm shops. You name it and we’ll get the beer there.

No end – we are excited about the challenge of making new interesting and innovative beers. We’re striving to brew beers in all sorts of ways for all walks of life. Who knows where the future could take us? As long as we stick to our local values and we’re continuing to make great quality hand-crafted beer, we are happy.

Handpull cask at the Shire Horse, Kettering. Very light golden, almost straw, clear with a loose rocky white head. Enticing aroma of white grape, gooseberry, some pale malts. Sweet taste, light fruity flavours leading to a bitterness at the finish. Watery body with low carbonation. I quite enjoyed this, a little surprised by some of the lower rates.

500ml bottle from local garden centre. Part of the glass broke away with the cap like they were fused together when opening which was ominous. Pours a light hazy dark gold with no head. Has a light mixed tropical tinned fruit and malt. Modest bitterness and very light carbonation - almost flat. Its not infected and tastes alright if a little stale. Still better than most macro lagers! Still, clearly something went wrong with the bottling and conditioning.

Taste is again biscuity with a slight butter note, sweet malt, sweet resin/near fruity tone. Light to medium bodied, moderate carbonation. Not a bad bitter.

Gravity cask at the Real Ale Classroom, Stoneygate, Leicester. Mid- to dark gold and clear with an uneven ring of off-white head. Hay, brown bread, honey, marmalade aroma. Sweet taste, touches of iced tea with a bitter finish. Light body, soft carbonation. Usually not my sort of beer but I quite liked this all on all. Has a subtlety to it.

500ml Bottle from a Melbecks Garden Centre, Coleshill. Clear amber with small off white top. Aroma of toasted malts with some caramel and light hops. Taste is quite sweet but has a nice balance of malt and hop flavour - caramel, slight toastiness to the grain with lemon, grass, pine. A decent bitter finish offsets the sweetness. Slick medium body and carbonation.

Cask at the Real Ale Classroom, Leicester city centre. Golden brown, clear with a decent-sized slightly loose beige head. Malty aroma, a little metallic, touch of ash, some cherry notes in the background. Gorgeous taste, sweetness to the fore with some intense bitterness in the second half of the sip. A little weak in the body, little carbonation. But this is a well done beer. Every time I take a sip I discover something new.
