Description
Monty’s Brewery is based just a short distance from the ancient castle town of Montgomery, on the Powys - Shropshire border. Monty’s Brewery was founded in 2008 by husband and wife team Russ and Pam Honeyman since then they have established the brewery as one of the leading breweries in Wales. Producing beers of many styles, with a focus on gluten free and low alcohol beers the brewery prides itself on its range having won many awards.

In this new world of sustainability and with a focus on the environment Monty’s is driving towards a more sustainable process. In the brewery we heat the water for each brew from the previous brew through plate heat exchangers, all helping to keep our carbon footprint down as much as we can. We don’t use any plastic in our packaging, and our waste grain, feeds local cattle, our first and last beer run-ins which would be a waste product are fed to a herd of Welsh Wagyu.

Cask at Wellington, Brum Aroma is vaguely malty. Opaque cola brown. Thin foamy beige head. Initial coffee bitterness and associated berries. Light-medium bodied. Slick to oily. Soft-fizzy carbonation. Long dry somewhat astringent finish. Nice enough.

Bottle from LCB. BBE in 7 months. Copper amber colour with decent off-white to beige foam head. Malty bread crust, light caramel aroma with hints of raisin and berries. Taste is malt driven and with a decent level of complexity for a best bitter- some bread crust, biscuit and brioche with light jam. Quite earthy and traditional in that there is not much in the way of flavouring hops. Reasonable bitterness comes through. Medium bodied. Decent.

Bottle from Chester Beer and Wine @ 2.8%. Clear amber with moderate sized off white head, excellent retention. Malty aroma with caramel hints, some metal, light stone fruits. Taste of malts, caramel, leafy and spice hop with a light fruity resin, moderate bitterness. Light bodied but not bad for the strength. Good stuff.

My last rating of 2024; 500ml bottle into an old Abbot Ale glass tankard at home before the New Years Eve celebrations begin (it's just gone 17:00 here in Shropshire). Decent off white head on a clean and clear amber body, there is a red hue to it's colour though, so it can be a Red IPA. More hop bitter than malty sweet, the hops dominating the aroma and taste. Another beer from Monty's that is worth trying.
