Description
Northern Monkey Brew Co was founded in 2016 by Ryan Bailey and Liam Convey, with the addition of some Southern Flare in Kevin Barber a couple of years later. A passion for drinking real ale, that progressed into home brewing and then eventually "lets build a brewery!" Years of planning, building and practice runs followed and some seriously understanding partners. We have gained some fantastic local customers and continue to sell further and further afield, at present selling independently throughout the North West.

We have had some fantastic success at a local and National level, with multiple awards for our beers, notably SIBA National Silver in the dark beers category for our 6% Chocolate Treacle Porter, Underdog. We also boast CAMRA accolades including 2019 Bolton Winter Pub of the Season, 2020 Bolton Pub of the Year. 2019 saw the release of the cult hit, Film Club! Our incredibly unique but completely delectable popcorn stout.

Our aims and ambitions remain the same as the day we first started and that is to make great beer and take great pride in representing our Northern heritage, and of course to serve the greatest beers at our Brewery Tap.

Isle Of Wight Holiday Beer#66. Dodging bad weather in Ryde. Not a bad thing to do with this paler golden brew on the table. Has a somewhat bittered hoppy tropical and exotic fruitiness. A touch of mango in aroma.

Beer 13 at the Wigan Beer Festival 2025. First beer that was pulled as a half despite the fact I always drink and ask for third measures at festivals. This one is different to all before being very creamy-hoppy in design, decent for it too.

Thin beige head on a hazy dull golden coloured body.
Orange & zesty aroma.
Medium bodied, lightly carbonated with a clean back.
Orange, melon, mango & exotic fruit tastes with a sweeter citrus finish.
That's a tasty one.

Cask at Petersgate Tap, Stockport. Pours a murky peach with minimal almost white head. There’s peaches and oats in the aroma. In the mouth it is sweet and juicy but with some underlying sharpness. Flavour is mainly floral hops but with some elements of melon, peach and tangerine too. Sweetness lasts into the finish. This is OK, but not my kind of beer at all.

Hand-pulled pint in the Pheasant Inn and Brewhouse (Wellington, Shropshire) on 15th January 2025. Bright light golden body, white head that lasted. Citrus front with a piney arse, liked it.

Hand-pulled half-pint on 9th October 2024, Pheasant Inn and Brewhouse. Clear and clean golden body, white crown. All a little subtle really, hop forward but lacking 'oomph' and depth, some light malt action for semblance of balance but it wasn't as I'd hoped.
