Description
We came up with the notion of opening a brewery while homebrewing one Saturday morning in Curt's garage. We had one simple idea we wanted to live by. Take the ideas and concepts of old world Belgian breweries and blend them with modern brewing techniques and styles. The result is a brewery full of unique beer, brewed without traditional rules, and often using fresh seasonal ingredients.

It took months of long nights and hard work to build the brewery, but in December 2012 we officially opened our doors. We had a stubbornness to build everything our self and this mindset went all the way to Curt Kucera designing his own brewing equipment. This would ultimately be the starting groundwork for what would become Ss Brewtech the following year.

In the coming years we signed on to distribution with Stone Brewing and began to distribute our beers throughout California. In 2015, we became the fastest growing production brewery in California. In 2016, Refuge became the largest brewery in Temecula and all of Riverside county. That same year we leased the suite next door (11,000 sqft total) to take the brewery to the next level.

On tap at the brewery. It pours a reddish pink color with a pink head. The aroma has cranberry, light hints of bile and lemon. The flavor is very sour. Pretty good cranberry character. Tart, mouthwatering finish. There is a light hint of ethyl acetate as well. Not overpowering, but it’s there. Decent.

On tap at the brewery. It pours a hazy salmon/orange color with a white head. The aroma is lemony and fairly clean. Creamy with light notes of plum. The flavor is slightly under ripe plum with some minor off notes of bile. Good levels of lemony sourness though. Hint of wheat. Overall, not bad, but not impeccably clean either.

On tap at Refuge. It pours a pineapple yellow color with a white head. The aroma is very creamy with apricot flesh and fuzz. Mild hints of lacto. The flavor is lemony tart with fresh apricot. So fresh. Like biting into a ripe apricot. Not much else going on but the pleasant apricot flavor and puckering, yet restrained tartness. Great stuff.

On tap at Salted Pig. It pours a clear pale gold color with a white head. The aroma bright with lemon candies. The flavor is the same. Intense lemon candy, some florals and a hint of cleaning fluid. It has a solid citrusy bitter finish. Ok.

Can thanks to Sarah! Pours a hazy pale yellow with an orange hue and a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has an orange soda note with some sweet wheat and a bit of juiciness. Flavor has sweet wheat and sweet orange juice that give an orange soda like feel to the beer.

Can from Bine & Vine. Pours very hazy light gold with a white head. Aroma of citrus and zest. Med body or nearly. Flavor is pretty much orange zest and citrus - with some wheat backing. Could be a hint of banana. Certainly has strong flavors for a wit!

Can. Pour looks exactly like orange juice with a small white head. Aroma is lots of orange with lots of other citrus. Flavor is some dry breadyness with a tart finish. Not a lot of orange comes through but enough to let you know it’s there. This is a decent wit and something different with the blood orange addition.

Poured up on tap at Refuge where it exhibits a clear gold body that supports a white head. The aroma offers up the classic Saison like spiciness and yeastiness and quickly gets into complimentary citrus hop notes. The taste starts with a mix of citrus tangelo and orange and then mango blending right into Saison spicy kind of flowery kind yeasty notes. This stays light and refreshing and punchy. Just a delicious brew where that sliver of funky meadow and flowers about midway really pull the whole thing together. This works really well.
