Description
We came up with the notion of opening a brewery while homebrewing one Saturday morning in Curt's garage. We had one simple idea we wanted to live by. Take the ideas and concepts of old world Belgian breweries and blend them with modern brewing techniques and styles. The result is a brewery full of unique beer, brewed without traditional rules, and often using fresh seasonal ingredients.

It took months of long nights and hard work to build the brewery, but in December 2012 we officially opened our doors. We had a stubbornness to build everything our self and this mindset went all the way to Curt Kucera designing his own brewing equipment. This would ultimately be the starting groundwork for what would become Ss Brewtech the following year.

In the coming years we signed on to distribution with Stone Brewing and began to distribute our beers throughout California. In 2015, we became the fastest growing production brewery in California. In 2016, Refuge became the largest brewery in Temecula and all of Riverside county. That same year we leased the suite next door (11,000 sqft total) to take the brewery to the next level.

Collab with Stone. Kind of a muddled beer. They couldn't decide whether it's a white or a hazy or what and ultimately it does none well. The Aromas are yeast, wheat, and Spice. Flavors are like nose with a bare hint of hops.

Poured up on tap at The Whinning Pig where it exhibits a near clear gold body that supports a thin white head of foam. The aroma offers up a blend of strawberry, melon, mango and guava. The taste delivers juicy notes from all angles with soft mango, guava, some strawberry and melon blended with mildly bitter lychee. It seems to have a brief hit of sour yeast going on. Soft and juicy with just enough there to balance. It becomes progressively more floral as it warms.

Pint can pours with a murky copper gold body that supports a full light tan head of foam. The aroma offers up orange and tangelo juice as well as guava, cantaloupe, mango and a thin slice of strawberry. The taste delivers a nice blend of juicy citrus and soft sweet tropical fruitiness. I get orange juice and tangelo juice woven into soft sweet guava, cantaloupe and mango. Also somewhere in there is a sliver of strawberry and a sense of minty tea. Pretty nice.
