Description
We came up with the notion of opening a brewery while homebrewing one Saturday morning in Curt's garage. We had one simple idea we wanted to live by. Take the ideas and concepts of old world Belgian breweries and blend them with modern brewing techniques and styles. The result is a brewery full of unique beer, brewed without traditional rules, and often using fresh seasonal ingredients.
It took months of long nights and hard work to build the brewery, but in December 2012 we officially opened our doors. We had a stubbornness to build everything our self and this mindset went all the way to Curt Kucera designing his own brewing equipment. This would ultimately be the starting groundwork for what would become Ss Brewtech the following year.
In the coming years we signed on to distribution with Stone Brewing and began to distribute our beers throughout California. In 2015, we became the fastest growing production brewery in California. In 2016, Refuge became the largest brewery in Temecula and all of Riverside county. That same year we leased the suite next door (11,000 sqft total) to take the brewery to the next level.

473ml can. Hazy, orangey, bright golden colour with small to average, frothy, rapidly diminishing, white head. Wheaty, minimally bready, and slightly fruity aroma, a touch of oat flakes and orange. Taste is fruity, minimally citrusy, sour-ish, fruit acidic, some residual sweetness, hints of orange, orange zest, slightly bready, wheaty background. So-so.

On one of my flights at the brewery on 10th Feb 2017. Old gold in colour, white head. Boozy and fruity, like a beer soaked fruit bowl with a selection of exotic fruits in a cocktail setting. Nice, found hints of yeast (Belgian yeast?) within the flavour also.
Earlier Rating: 2/20/2017 Total Score: 3.8
20oz pour in the Public House Temecula on 9th Feb 2017. Amber body, on top a full head of beige bubbles. Aroma had a mixed fruit bowl sort of base with a little yeast trace to it. A slight citrus leaning to the fruit bowl, especially in the taste where the hops got a bitter with each other and overpowered the malt content. Dry finish. They like their Blood Oranges around here, every brewery seems to use them in one beer or other. I liked this beer.

Part of a flight at the brewery on 10th Feb 2017. Dark bodied with a tanned head. Nice chocolate nose and flavour, the chilies arrived late and added some heat to the proceedings. Liked it.

On tap at the brewery on 10th Feb 2017. Red hue to the mahogany body, hazy pour, beige head. Oaky, malty and interesting, some vanilla traces in the nose, less so in the taste. Liked it, only on a flight though: was on a mission to try a few so couldn’t really have a larger glass.
