Description
WHEN YOU SIT DOWN WITH A BEER, YOU’RE AFTER SOMETHING. Maybe it’s nuanced layers of flavor, the siren call of a favorite hop, or to test your skill identifying stone fruit tasting notes. Maybe you’re chasing the new or craving the familiar, perhaps you just want to kick back for a drink with friends—and order another of the same. At Bearded Iris, our beers meet you where you are and deliver the experience you seek, whatever it might be, because that’s what we believe makes beer worth drinking. CULTIVATE VARIETY DRIVES US AT BIBCO. (WE’RE NOT KIDDING.) With a menu that skews heavily toward IPAs, DIPAs, and pales, it can appear that we don’t, in fact, cultivate much “variety.” But here’s the thing: we’re not looking to bombard you with a checklist of styles. Instead, we know that each hop varietal and every intentionally selected ingredient contains a multitude of possibilities that can be deliberately unlocked and unleashed, then honed and hemmed in tightly, to construct a pint that’s unapologetically itself, memorably composed, and fun to drink. Every time. Regardless of style. To us, that’s the variety worth cultivating. And that’s what we bring to your table.

Draft at Bearded Iris. Pours a hazy gold with a finger of creamy foam that lingers. Pithy citrus and grass all over the nose. Dry and grassy with good hop character throughout. Almost tart. Dry, bitter finish with lingering green pineapple and banana.

Hoppy toast in a can. Not my favorite Oktoberfest beer this year, but damn close, even if it plays fast and loose with the parameters of the style. Gets the toasted bread, honey, and caramel of the malts right, but adds a fruity hop backbone for the signature Bearded Iris twist. Lemondrops, bubblegum, slight notes of pineapple and dank all meld nicely with the warm marzen malts, leading to a mild bitterness on the back end and hints of yeast in the fade. Nice.

Can from Craft Brewed. Pours a deep gold with a full 2 fingers of foam that lingers. Big catpiss, citrus driven nose, with some caramel as it warms. Good hoppy bite, more citrus, tangerine and caramel honey flavors. Nice peppery, bitterness permeates through the finish. Nice modern take on a festbier.

Draft at the source. Pours a hazy, juicy gold with a finger of foam that lingers and beautiful lacing the whole way down. Big dank, diesel fuel nose with tropical fruit everywhere. Good green hoppy character, and juice throughout. Some tartness that hits the back of the tastebuds and lingers. Very pungent. Mild bitterness towards the finish, more green pineapple and maybe green banana. Very Vermont to me.

Apparently Chasing Rainbows ain't my thing; not a huge fan of the first two, while the third in the series is the weakest, offering up a front-loaded burst of tropical citrus hops before collapsing into a mildly bitter, bland finish. Starts with a splash of lemondrops, melon, grapefruit, mango, berry, and herb, but any solid profile dissipates quickly into a pine-laced soapy back end, almost Session IPA-ish in its lack of heft or staying power. The aroma's the best part, big and juicy with tons of berry-citrus hops. Pours a hazed yellow-gold with a weak white head and ample lacing. Texture's a tad thin but agreeable. Not Bearded Iris at their best.

Draft at the source. Pours a hazy, mango-gold color with a full finger of fluffy foam that lingers. Lots of peach, papaya and guava on the nose. Some light coconut water aromas. Well-balanced and not overly sweet. Good carbonation. Dry, tropical fruit on the finish. More guava and peach skin. Low bitterness on the finish. Solid drop. --- Beer merged from original tick of Tunnel Vision DDH on 19 Oct 2017 at 20:43 - Score: 8. Original review text: Nice tropical nose. Guava, papaya and peach. Well-balanced, not overly sweet. Low bitterness. Excellent drop.

Can’t go wrong with any iteration of Double Homestyle, but DDH Galaxy brings out an extra layer of smooth tropical citrus, adding orange marmalade and passion fruit to the already deadly Double Homestyle base. Caramel malts mix with grainy undertones to balance out the hop joy on the front, while herbal pine notes pop up on the back end to provide a moderate bitterness on the finish. Beautiful pour, beautiful nose, beautiful texture. Probably my favorite BI beer.

Another tasty Bearded Iris IPA, juicy as all hell with massive waves of orange, passion fruit, mango, and pineapple, mixing with soapy floral notes, a little berry, and a smidge of pine thrown in for good measure. Amazing juiced-up nose, like snorting Hawaiian punch. A bit abrasive on the feel, but otherwise a very good pint.

Can from the source. Pours a hazy gold with a finger of foam that lingers. Cat piss, durian and mango nose. Juicy mouthfeel. Sweet, tropical fruit, peach and some more mango. Slight hoppy burn on the back of the throat. Tons more fruit. Really well executed. Attention Please! is a great base to experiment with different hops. --- Beer merged from original tick of Attention Please! DDH W/ Nelson on 09 Oct 2017 at 21:52 - Score: 8. Draft at the source. Pours a hazy straw with a finger of foam that lingers. Super dank nose with lots of dried durian, coconut and lychee. Some cat piss and white grapefruit pith come out as it warms. Dry on the palate, not much else besides a yeasty-like dryness and pithy citrus. Not bitter per se, but just not much character. Killer nose though. --- Beer merged from original tick of Chasing Rainbows Three on 08 Oct 2017 at 22:39 - Score: 7. Original review text: Super dank nose with lots of dried durian, coconut and lychee. Dry on the palate, not much else besides malt. Doesn’t live up to the nose.
