Description
WHEN YOU SIT DOWN WITH A BEER, YOU’RE AFTER SOMETHING. Maybe it’s nuanced layers of flavor, the siren call of a favorite hop, or to test your skill identifying stone fruit tasting notes. Maybe you’re chasing the new or craving the familiar, perhaps you just want to kick back for a drink with friends—and order another of the same. At Bearded Iris, our beers meet you where you are and deliver the experience you seek, whatever it might be, because that’s what we believe makes beer worth drinking. CULTIVATE VARIETY DRIVES US AT BIBCO. (WE’RE NOT KIDDING.) With a menu that skews heavily toward IPAs, DIPAs, and pales, it can appear that we don’t, in fact, cultivate much “variety.” But here’s the thing: we’re not looking to bombard you with a checklist of styles. Instead, we know that each hop varietal and every intentionally selected ingredient contains a multitude of possibilities that can be deliberately unlocked and unleashed, then honed and hemmed in tightly, to construct a pint that’s unapologetically itself, memorably composed, and fun to drink. Every time. Regardless of style. To us, that’s the variety worth cultivating. And that’s what we bring to your table.

Can into a snifter showing hazy unnfiltered orange and no head. The nose shows oranges with a light NE style malt backbone. The palate is light bodied and well carbonated. Flavors of oranges with a very strong citric acidic edge and a light malt backbone. Practically no bitterness but also not a lot of flavor.

A double IPA for the IBU-phobic. Massive frontloaded hops, tropical and citric and juicy as all hell, yet the back end’s kind of a desert; the hoppiness drifts away, leaving a semisweet grainy finish and a distinct lack of bitterness to close things out. I hate to be repetitive, but this seems to be my primary issue with Bearded Iris; too many of their IPAs start hoppy as all hell and fade into nothingness by the end. Solid citrus-dank-pine nose, and the appearance is solid, not as hazed as most BI beers but a pretty gold with ample lacing. Texture’s good too, slick and oily. But it’s odd to have a beer this hoppy not leave you with any palate-wrecking bitterness on the fade. Call it the anti-Stone.

Massive fruits coming from the hops, grapefruit and mango, citrus and peach, all set against an unexpectedly strong malt backbone, giving the brew slight cobbler leanings in its sweetness. Starts semisweet but quickly grows tropical and bright, then settles down with a modest sugary middle, undercurrents of citrus punch, only to fade moderately bitter and piney. Keeps the ABV well-hidden, and the texture’s smooth. Not the best DIPA Bearded Iris has given us, but still drinkable as hell.

Can. Pours quite hazy golden orange, medium off-white head, creamy and dissipates slowly, nice lacing. Aroma is melon, mango, stonefruit, a bit of buttery peach. Medium body, soft mouthfeel.
