Description
Back in 2001 I walked into Highgate brewery hoping for a delivery job, little did I know that 13 years later (2014) I would be running and owning my very own micro brewery. After the closure of Highgate and completing 8 years in the trade, successfully learning the vital skills needed I quickly found another job, this time in a micro brewery called Blue bear brewery.

As I was the only brewer onsite I was left responsible for the day to day brewing, cleaning and packaging of the brewery which I gained massive experience for later on in my career. I later left Blue bear to go and work with an old friend at the Worcestershire brewing company. Together myself and the head brewer worked on new recipes and new ideas and successfully built up a good reputation for our ales. This was the time when I came truly passionate about real traditional ales and made the first steps into building my own brewery.

Hand-pulled pint at the Crown Inn, Oakengates on 19th September 2024. Light amber body, white cap. Fruity brew with Mosaic hops doing their thing and the malts adding some sweetness. All in all a decent pint, but not really a 10th anniversary special too me.

Cask at The Wellington, Birmingham. Poured a crystal clear yellow golden colour with a bubbly white head. The aroma is malt and yeast. The flavour is light bitter, with a light, smooth, watery, light herbal, light woody hop bitter palate. Medium to light bodied with soft carbonation.

Cask at Wellington, Birmingham. Pours a solid gold with minimal off-white head. There’s tropical fruits in the aroma. In the mouth it is quite bitter with citrus and tangerine, but balanced to an extent my malts and barley sugar.Bitterness lasts into the finish. It’s OK I suppose.

Cask @ The Anvil, Shifnal. Very dark with a creamy-frothy head. Easy, somewhat ordinary stout with a mix of bushy-floral and roasted notes, neither of which dominates.

Second beer on a Wednesday afternoon pub crawl around Shrewsbury with myself, 7th February 2024. Half-pint, hand-pulled in the Armoury. Took a while to clear, but it did, nice mid-range golden glow, white pillow of foam on top. Semi-sweet citrus front to the nose and taste, just another citrussy golden ale really!

Cask at Bird in Hand, Stafford. Pours a bright yellow with a small foamy white head and good lacing. There’s floral hops in the aroma, but not much else. In the mouth it moves fairly swiftly from sweet, to sharply citrus to more mellow bitterness, with a slightly creamy texture. Flavour has plenty of fruit, grapefruit, kiwi, some underlying melon and traces of roanges. Finish is slightly dry with a citrus twang. Nice and refreshing.
