As I was the only brewer onsite I was left responsible for the day to day brewing, cleaning and packaging of the brewery which I gained massive experience for later on in my career. I later left Blue bear to go and work with an old friend at the Worcestershire brewing company. Together myself and the head brewer worked on new recipes and new ideas and successfully built up a good reputation for our ales. This was the time when I came truly passionate about real traditional ales and made the first steps into building my own brewery.

Cask at the Queens Head, Wordsley. Pours pale gold with a small head. Aroma is eggy straw. Taste has straw throughout with an eggy finish. Flabby mouthfeel.

500ml bottle drank in Wellington Market on 28th August 2021. Clean and clear golden body, white head. Light malty aroma, mild hop bitterness in the taste, not AJ's finest!

Hand-pulled half-pint at The Crown Inn, Oakengates, Shropshire on 27th July 2021. Dark blonde body, clean and clear, white head. Mild citrus nose and taste, some light malt action, but all a bit weak and almost bland. Wrong beer at the wrong time maybe, nothing naughty or unpleasant, just me!

Cask at Shrewsbury Arms, Stafford. Pours a golden amber with a small off-white head and good lacing. Nose has malts, honey and marmalade – in that order. In the mouth the alcoholic strength is the first thing to grab the attention. Flavours of ginger and marmalade are pretty much instant too, whilst hints of toffee and spices take longer to show up. Finish is dry with alcoholic strength. Nice and dangerously drinkable. Not a red ale by any means , though I’m not sure how I would categorise it.

Cask at Beerbohm, Lichfield. Pours a chrome yellow with a small white head and good lacing. Nose is unremarkable. In the mouth it is briefly juicy with sweet malts before fruity / traditional hops kick in on a base of cereal grains. Some sips give hints of peppersw too. Finish is dry and hoppy. Rather nice. I would say it’s more of an English style IPA than an American Pale.

Cask at Shrewsbury Arms, Stafford (not on RB yet) Pours an extremely dark reddish brown with a generous cream head. A nice aroma of vanilla with hints of woodsmoke. Texture is creamy, with taste of dark fruits, liquorice and a little milky coffee. The finish is fruity, but in a gentle way. Nice enough, but doesn’t really have much “stout” characteristic.

Nice round beer. Clean and full, velvety, mild and dark but balanced. On cask, real ale at the wellington birmingham

Hand-pulled cask pint at The Crown Inn, Oakengates Shropshire on 18th Oct 2019. Dark brown brew with plenty going on. Lasting beige head that gave some heavy lacing. Malty molasses rule the nose and flavours, some decent bitterness from the hop content also. Liked it.
