6th June 2010. RBESG 10 Grand Tasting at the Brasserie 4:20 Warehouse. Hazy dark brown beer. A little tan head. Soft palate. Sweet dark toffee with a little cream and a dash of minerals. Subtle fruit coming through in the finish. Not bad.

Darkbrown cloudy beer, irregular beige head that dissipates rather quickly. Sweet-spiced smell, ripe fruits, caramel and coffee. Somewhat acidic to sweet taste, but not too sweet either. Hint of caramel, burned malt is also present but not too overwhealming. A very balanced beer and quite complex for the low alcohol percentage. A good thirst-quencher.

75cl bottle with cork. One month past exp. date. Pours a dark yellowish to light orange beer. Fine white irregular head that disappears quickly. Sweet honeylike scent, hints of sour apple. Tastes sweet with spices. Aftertaste is sweet ending in bitter and some sour. Hint of honey stays present. The overal sweetness is probably due to the age of the bottle. Needs retasting.

Pours a clear goldblond beer, fine laced white head. In the nose a little yeasty, but not very pronounced smell whatsoever. Full body and round mouthfeeling. Bitter and slightly acidic taste, hints of green apples. Nice bitterdry aftertaste. Surprisingly much taste for "just a blond"!

Bottle. (33) Pours dark amber with a huge foamy beige head. There’s a sour note in the aroma. Otherwise darker roast malt. Medium body plus with foamy carbonation. It’s just a bit sweet; just a bit bitter; just a touch sour. Flavors are like chocolate and coffee over dark caramel. Very interesting stuff. Long finish.

Bottle. Pours really dark amber with a foamy beige head. Dark caramel aroma. Medium plus body with foamy, sharp carbonation. Flavor is somewhat cola. Heading towards dry, but not there. Sort of a mild coffee in the finish. Leaves a good result in the mouth, but not at all exciting. The ending flavor hangs around, so this beer is respectable. Worth a try.

Draught at the Academie de la Biere in Strasbourg. It has a nice head, quite light, really bubbly. Highly carbonated. The alcohol is well hidden, but there is a slight metal or iron taste to it as well. It is a lot sweeter than I expected, really too sweet when compared to the really good triples. It’s not bad, but it’s kind of simple. It tastes strongly of caramel and rich malt, but lacks complexity.
