Description
At Kinnegar we pair brewing tradition with a contemporary sense of adventure to produce clean, crisp, full-flavoured farmhouse beers. The brewery is named after the nearby Kinnegar Beach
just north of Rathmullan in County Donegal.

Our roots are deeply embedded in the hilly fields and farms of northeast Donegal. This is the perfect environment for the way we make beer. We don’t filter or pasteurise, and we let our industrious little friends, the yeast, carbonate the beer naturally during fermentation.

With the opening of K2, our new state-of-the-art facility in nearby Letterkenny in March 2017, the clinking of bottles coming off our line no longer mingles with the bleating of sheep from the surrounding fields. The farmhouse ethos at the core of what we do however remains the same.

Pours a very clear pale golden blonde. Medium sized, big bubbled (soapy) head with low stability. Scent is grainy, but not fresh or crisp. Clean fermentation profile, and hops seemingly absent. Taste is fairly intense, with a surprisingly high bitterness, medium mild malty base. Minor sweet touch left. Thin body, high carbo. Recognizable as a very low (or no, one might think) alcohol beer. definately can use more complexity as this seems like a carbonated water mixed with a tiny amount of beer, and bitterness added to that blend. Not a big fan.

440ml can from Monster and Beer, Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a mostly lasting bubbly off white head. The aroma is grainy malt, light smoky, grassy hops. The flavour is moderate to strong bitter, with a dry, roasty, earthy, leather, wet grassy hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with average to soft carbonation. One of the best Black IPA’s I’ve had in a while. It had some body and was not over-carbonated.

Can sourced from Hoptimaal and shared at home (01/04/2021) - (my can had 1% rather than 0.5% abv) light hazed golden pour with a white head. Citrus fruity with vague notes of lemon, some straw, hay, light malts, watery body, grassy bitter finish. Not doing much for me here.
